  1. wsarah2107, were you a former employee of Regions before you did the critical care immersion program? Would you mind sharing what you think helped you get your foot in the door for this position? I have seen this program on the website and am thinking of applying for the fall. I have completed many clinical hours in the ICU and would LOVE to work at Regions!
  2. whtepketfences, which hospital in Montana? I am from MN and interested in relocating to obtain an RN job if there are openings!
  3. i actually work at a facility as a cna that is co-owned by an rn and licensed nursing home administrator. technically it's not a full fledge nursing home because i think their license does not allow for every nursing skill to be provided in this setting (cannot remember what class license, but the residents cannot have iv medications etc). however, it is their company and they have carried out the entire design from how they run the business to staff and resident care. i think they may have had some investors involved with the financing to buy the land and to pay for construction etc. they have expanded through out the community and now across the state where i go to school. the settings are beautiful and have great staff to patient ratios. but i think the families pay a lot of money for the luxury but it is obviously worth it when compared to some of the other facilities available. i think just about anyone can start a business like this if you have the determination. i think for now the market of long term homes where i work is a bit over saturated so that might be a point to consider. otherwise if you have a knowledge of this area of health care you probably know what kind of things are necessary to create a facility of your own. as for profit... the rumor is that each of these individuals make over 300k a year.
  4. in order to get into law school you have to have a bachelors degree. most of the time pre-law students choose philosophy or political science for their major, however a nursing degree can be an excellent choice because you are processing large amounts of information and using critical thinking skills. you also have to take the lsat prior to entry and obtain a score consistent with scores from other students who have applied to whichever school you would like to apply to. your gpa is important as well as extracurricular activities. you should go for the lpn if you have this opportunity and want to enter this career field on the way to becoming a lawyer. there are many lpn to bsn programs available and whether you want to take it step by step that is up to you. however, if you want to be a lawyer you must complete some sort of bachelors regardless if it's nursing or not. one other suggestion is to put some time into knowing if you want to be a lawyer for sure, i have a friend who entered law school and realized after the first year that it was not what she expected. i think she was caught up in the idea of making a lot of money and it was not enough to make her happy. if you want to work with mothers and babies (ob nursing) you do not have to have special certification but it is a option after you have worked in this area of specialization. it is usually a popular area to specialize in so i am not sure how easy it is to get into this area of nursing as a new graduate but i am sure the other forums can help answer that question. as for being a cna, i really am glad i worked as a cna prior and during nursing school. i think i knew a little more than other students who were not cna or working outside of the healthcare realm. i think it helps you become comfortable taking care of people and improves your communication skills with a patient. good luck with whatever you decide to do! you are still young and have a lot of time to make these decisions!
  5. congratulations on the internship! i also am participating in an internship this summer in the micu. i was thinking to prepare for the experience to buy an icu made incredibly easy book. here is another thread with some suggestions: good luck! https://allnurses.com/micu-sicu-nursing/suggestions-student-icu-379013.html
