  1. I just graduated from nursing school and my husband bought a lei of orchids that I wore to my graduation. He had it shipped in from Hawaii. I'm sure you can get a floral shop to do the same. It probably cost a lot but it was beautiful and made me feel very special. My mom got me a stethoscope with my name on it and I love it. I will be working in the NICU and we cannot wear anything below the elbow, including watches or rings so you might think about where she is going to be working. Good luck and tell your wife congratulations!
  2. I just graduated from Nursing School with my BSN on Friday. I am 45 years old with 3 children and it took me four years of full time study with at least 15 credits every semester. I won't tell you that it is easy, because its not. But it can be done and you sound like you have the determination to do it. I was worried that I would not be able to keep up with all of the "kids" I was going to school with, but I did quite well. I loved it and can't wait to get started in the world of Nursing. I agree with what someone else said. Don't let anyone tell you you can't do it. Let your family know how important this is to you and enlist their help. I used to do my homework at the same time as my children so I could help them with theirs! Expect to have a lot of stress and that you will have to pick priorities and let everything else go for the time being. Good luck!
  3. I am appalled at this also! I think the teacher should really be talking to the Nurse Manager of the NICU about whether these types of nurses are the ones they want taking care of infants on the unit. If you can't sit through a class once a week and do something "hard" like calculating meds, how are you going to be able to handle any real problems? I don't blame you for being upset, and I would be worried about working with these nurses or turning any of my patients over to them.
