I just graduated LPN (LVN) school Jan. '08. I was the only male in my class. It had it's ups & down. More ups than down. 1. Your wife/girlfriend may get a little jealous becuse you are surounded by women that you may have to call or they may have to call you for help with an assingment. And they will complain about not spending enough time with them because you always have to study. 2. You will makes some great friends. 3. Yeah, you will sometimes get chewed out by the instructor, but it's nothing compared to having to call a Dr. at 3 am in the morning for something. 4. You will meet some great people in the clinical setting. This is the time to sell yourself. Network, get to know each units Nursing Director. This can be the chance to get a good entry level position. 5. Leave any cockiness you have at the door. You are there to learn not teach. Take any criticisims from the instructor and use them to strengthen your weaknesses. They are where... you want to be. 6. Believe me when I say there will be days when you say to yourself, "What the hell am I doing here?" Hang in there it will get better. 7. Finally don't listen to what everyone tells you. No two experiences are the same. Good luck and I hope you make the right choose. I know I did. Anthony T., LPN
