LTC & Skilled Nursing Facilities
I did my clinicals at Prestige's Porthaven facility on NE Prescott. Run, don't walk, away! They pay a bit more than other places but not worth it. No infrastructure. No bathrooms in the residents' rooms. You have to wheel/hoyer them to the loos every time. good luck!

Are BSNs and Accelerated BSNs as hard to get into as ASN in the Community College??
here in portland,or... there are nursing lotteries/waitlists for asns at the community colleges... what about the bsn/accelerated bsn/alternate entry msn?? i already have an m.a in mass communication... i have at least a year of pre-reqs to do...and am just planning out the next couple of years, so if you could tell me what to expect, that'd be great!!

Where are you going to school?
hi! right now, i'm weighing my options on how to enter the field... i'm second-career, started pre-reqs at portland comm college... it's really difficult to get in anywhere, so i plan to apply everywhere. i'm also eligible for the accelerated bsn as i have a master's degree in communication.... in case i don't get accepted anywhere, i plan to do an lpn course... so i was wondering where you all were going to lpn school?? here, i think the 1st year of an asn in comm college gets u an lpn or you can get it at a technical/vocational school, such as concorde etc spendier than cc, but at least you can get in somewhere instead of twiddling your thumbs, waiting to be accepted at rn or bsn school! thanks

Pioneer Pacific Lpn Program
i'm thinking of checking out pioneer pacific's lpn program ... anyone here graduate from there?? how did you like the program and did you think you were adequately prepared for the real world of nursing? how are the job prospects today? any advice at all? do the lpn credits transfer to other rn programs? i could always go the excelsior route....i suppose...to pursue an rn and bsn thereafter i should mention that i have a master's degree in communication and want to switch to nursing... do you think a bsn/accelerated bsn is a better idea?

So Confused! Programs hard to get into
#1 user profilertkam vbmenu_register("postmenu_2139507", true); registered user join date: apr 2007 posts: 1 country: usa what do i do?? confused newbie needs answers permalink i'm looking into nursing as a second career, and am starting my pre-reqs at portland community college... they have a nursing lottery to enter the asn program, so my questions are these: 1. once i'm done with my pre-reqs in a year and apply to the asn at the comm. college, if i don't get in, what would you recommend i do? i'm 31 with 2 children under 6. 2. does anyone recommend going for a lpn diploma, work and do the lpn-rn bridge instead of sitting around waiting for entry into asn? 3. should i just bite the bullet and transfer my pre-reqs and get into university nursing school and get a bsn... the only issue i have with this route is the time it takes to get a bsn. i have a master's in communication, and don't want to spend 3-4 years in school!! we don't have an accelerated bsn program locally in portland, or, i think. please help!
