  1. The hiring nurses said they liked to see all the enthusiastic, smart nurse coming in to be interviewed. I have experience working with HIV, in a community clinic, volunteering in a prison and an interest in public health. San Quentin has a volunteer education program if you want to get experience. Also I have friends who do workshops for men and women in county jails in the Bay Area. I would get some volunteer experience in any area you are interested. I think my extensive volunteer experience was part of the reason I was called into many interviews as a new grad compared to my other classmates.
  2. Hello, I was hired at Sierra Conservation Center and will know my start date this week. Have you found a place yet? What do you know about where you will be working? I am from the Bay Area and will be going up next week to look for a place.
  3. I am starting the ABSN Oakland in a week. I found the administration to be doing a great job in responding to questions. I would recommend checking in. They make their decisions later then I thought they would. Once I was in everything went smoothly. They are good and communicating through email. Good Luck!
  4. I found Chemistry to be a foundation for Physiology. I would recommend taking Chemistry before Physio and Micro as it helped quite a bit. I think Chem goes well with Anatomy or the first sequence of A & P. It is doable. My one regret is that I didn't cram in more classes to apply to nursing school sooner.
