FNP program at University of southern indiana
They charge instate tuition for online courses. I just started last week. They are very reasonably priced.

Part time NPs?
Oh, that is interesting. I also need the insurance so that is good to know. Did you accept a position? May I ask what state you are in? Are you glad you became an NP or is it too soon to tell lol? I've been an ICU nurse for 17 years, I'm a bit intimidated by the thought of the autonomy of an NP, but I'm sure you learn what you need to know in school, hopefully.

Part time NPs?
I am wondering if there are many opportunities for NPs to work part time? I am starting school this fall for my MSN degree and need to finalize my decision on my major, either MSN nursing education or FNP. I have small children and just getting through school will be more than enough hours while still working. Does anyone know of NPs who work part time?

Question about Walden University
I am accepted into the University of Southern Indiana's MSN in nursing education program to start this fall, it is online. I am struggling with my choice. This is a "brick and mortar" school that has an excellent reputation as far as I can tell. They also charge instate tuition for online students so the total cost is around $10,000 plus books, but taking one class at a time will take me 3 1/2 years. I spoke with Walden today, the cost is around $18,000 which includes all books and will take 2 years, these are 8 week classes. I am really wondering what I should do. Any input would be appreciated...

FNP program at University of southern indiana
Hi, I am starting USI this fall in the MSN nurse ed program. Did you ever talk to anyone that's in the program? I'm just wondering about the courses, instructors, etc.

MS in Nursing vs MSN does this matter?
I am also wondering about the difference between MS and MSN. I am accepted into the University of Southern Indiana's MSN in nursing education this fall. I'm currently adjunct at a local RN school, and when I asked the Dean (who also happens to be on the Ohio Board of Nursing and has a DNP), she stated most nursing schools want full time faculty members to have an MSN for their accreditation requirements. Walden University kept calling me (they offer the MS) and when I asked the "sales person" on the phone about this and and mentioned the statement above by the Dean, she became very defensive and almost rude and said there wasn't any significant difference between the MSN and MS as far as teaching goes. She also said I could give the Dean her phone number so she could educate her on this subject which I thought was pretty comical. I would like to research the subject further. Any information would be helpful!

Chamberlain College of Nursing Students!!
Hi, I'm finished with the program in 2 weeks. It took me about a year and a half. I mostly took only one class at a time. The classes aren't that difficult, other than the online stats class which took a lot of time, but I've gotten all A's. There are some papers to write, but if I can do it anyone can. Before starting, I had not taken a class in 15 years. I would recommend it other than the cost. I added up my total the other day and it came to$23,000 and I was able to transfer in a couple of classes. Good luck and feel free to email me if you have any other questions, Tracey

Advanced comp wasn't too bad. I would take that next, because it will help you with writing papers. I mainly took one class at a time.

Chamberlain College of Nursing Students!!
Hi, I have been in the program since last April. I have 3 more classes to go which I think are the most difficult. I had to take the stats through Devry and it was very time consuming, but I made it through. I took the economics class at my local campus, and transferred in the history class. The program isn't too difficult. So far I have a 4.0, but it does require some time and effort. If I can do it after not being in school for 17 years, anyone can. There are 5 of my friends/coworkers in the program, too. If you have any specific questions, you can send me a private message. Good luck!

Women's Health NP for me?
Thank you everyone and nurseaboveboard. Yes, it does make sense to me. I feel that I'm in the same mindset that you are. I don't know what I want to do. My 3 co-workers that I'm in the RN-BSN program are all leaning toward ANP. Then we started talking about doing the FNP program so it could make us more marketable. I do not want to provide care for babies or children either. I don't really want the responsibility/liability, but I figured maybe when I did my clinical portion I might have more of a desire to practice. I also figured if I do the NP I will have my master's degree and I could always teach if I wanted. I just feel like there is something else out there for me after 16 years as an ICU nurse in the same hospital!

Women's Health NP for me?
Thanks to everyone that has responded to my question, I really appreciate it! Does anyone know of a program that offers a post-master's certificate in women's health?

Women's Health NP for me?
Thank you for your responses. Nurseaboveboard, could you elaborate one why your not currently practicing as a FNP? I'm just so unsure of what I want to do, I'm looking for any advice from NPs.

Women's Health NP for me?
Hi, I am an RN with 15 years of ICU experience. I am ready to make a change from critical care. I am considering becoming a Women's Health NP. Does one need to have experience in women's health before starting this type of program? I live in Ohio, and I am considering University of Cincinnati's online program, but the cost will be about $27,000. I am also considering an ANP program at Otterbein College in Columbus, which will cost about $18,000. Does anyone have any advice? I need help! I can't decide what path to take, I just know I need a change. Thank you!

Mainly, I would not do the program again because of the price. $520 a credit hour is ridiculous, but they are a for profit college. The classes haven't been too horrible so far. The most difficult one I've had so far is the stats class. I had to put in a tremendous amount of hours into that. I was going to drop it, but I didn't realize you only have 3 days to drop a class or you lose 50% of the tuition. I tried to drop it on the 4th day and they wouldn't budge. My friend dropped it anyway and lost $1000. I ended up with an A, but it was very difficult for me. I'm also taking the econ class at my local campus. I viewed the syllabus for Chamberlain/Devry's econ class and it looked like a crazy amt of work. I didn't have to take the history class, becaue I had it at another college. My friends took it, said it was a pain, but they both ended up with A's. You can email me with any other questions or after you start if you need any help. Good luck!

Can you teach with NP degree
Thank you. It is surprising to me that teaching pays less. In central Ohio, I'm finding that NP doesn't pay much more than I make as a staff nurse. The average I've found is around $40/hr.

I am just finishing my 5th class through Chamberlain's online RN-BSN program. What kind of problems did you run across? Other than the ridiculous price, I've only had a few other issues. Why do you say you're embarrassed? I don't think I would do this program again, though. I started it because I thought I would finish a lot quicker than I will. It will take me about 18 months. I'm just curious. Any advice or warnings you could give me would be much appreciated.

Any Southern Indiana University online NP grads or students
I was wondering if anyone has any information on Southern Indiana University's online NP program?

Can you teach with NP degree
I was wondering if one can teach in a nursing school with an NP degree or is an MSN in education required. I'm not sure which route I want to go, but if it's possible to teach with a NP degree, I would probably go that way for more career options.

Chamberlain
Hi, I was just wondering how the portfolio experience was. I'm in my 4th class through Chamberlain. I've been an ICU nurse for 15yrs and have chg, preceptor and committe experience. Is this the type of criteria they are looking for? I don't know if it's worth going through the process. How was it for you? We're you able to get out of all of the clinicals? Thanks, Tracey

I live in Ohio, I am the online RN-BSN program, but it's through the Missouri campus. I know there was an article about the Columbus campus in the Columbus Dispatch, you could search through the archives on their website to see it.

Chamberlain College of Nursing Students!!
Chamberlain accepts 87 credits for my nursing degree, which is more than any other school I've found. They require a few prereqs which you can do at the same time as your other courses. Advanced comp, stats and a history. They split the semesters. There's also 3 nursing courses that are clinicals that you do locally, but you can provide a portfolio about your work experience and other things you've done explaining why you should get credit for up to 10 credits for these clinicals. If they accept this, you still have to pay for the credit hours, but you don't have to do the clinical hours. It' $480 a credit hour, which is pricey, but when you compare it to the courses that you don't have to take it probably comes out pretty even. For instance, my local private college is $400 a credit hours, and I had to take 9 prereqs before I started the nursing courses and the nursing courses were going to take me 2 years to complete. After July, Chamberlain is going to require a few more prereqs, though. That's why I decided to start this April. I'm not thrilled to be starting school over the summer. It is a lot of money no matter what. I just hope I have the self discipline to finish it!

I'm from Ohio, are your classes online? I'm just wondering how the online classes are. I've never taken one and I haven't been in school for 15 yrs!
