  1. I'm an Australian RN studying to be a midwife at the moment. I plan to work for a year after i graduate from midwifery and work overseas for a while. I've got a few places in mind such as vancouver and the uk, but would love some input as to what other countries you guys have love doing your nursing or midwifery in. I'm not fussed about the conditions of work. I could birth babies in africa or work in new york. It's the experiences that count.
  2. I just started working at as a div 1 registered nurse and finding it very stressful at the moment. I know that there are all kinds of patients everywhere but i am now looking in the long term and am wondering if there is an area of nursing that I can do that i may enjoy more. I don't like confused or psych patients and i don't particularly want to work with people who requires full nursing care (Ie: they cant move, transfers, require washes etc)? Any ideas? What would be an area of nursing i could get into that doesn't have much of the patients i mentioned above?
  3. I'm about to start full time nursing next year in melbourne and am faced with two choices for superannuation: Hesta super funds (http://www.hesta.com.au) or Health super (http://www.healthsuper.com.au). I've looked at teh websites but they are all still very confusing to me. Can anyone give me some opinion, suggestions, experiences and recommendations for these two company?
  4. Thanks guys, i really appreciate the help. Critical th inking is one of the things i have trouble with, so in asking for help and seeing what guys would suggest, is in a way helping me with my work. Anyway, thank you. Off to hand off my assignment now.
  5. To Jemb-yes it is for an assignment, one which i desperately need help with. HOwever, i'm certainly not getting other people to do this assignment for me. Have u never gotten stuck on a particular assignment during the course of ur studies and required help? Despite the number of books and sites i've looked through, they didn't seem to mention the assessments that should be made during the administration of prednisolone. Btw, thanks to those who have helped me improve my general nursing knowledge and help with these assignment. I'm on my way to finish it.
  6. what sort of assessments should be made during the administration of prednisolone?
  7. The following is a case study i desperately need help with. All help greatly appreciated! 65 yr old man presented with shortness of breath and chest infection post op. Chronic frequent smoker. had open cholecystetomy 5 days ago. He's currently recieving Ventolin (via inhaler), Ipratropium bromide, predisolone, temazepam, amoxycillin. What are soem of the assessments that are a nurse must, or should make prior to administration, during administration and following the administration of the drug? Thanks for the help!
  8. thank you guys! I really appreciate the help. i'm also wondering, what about the devices that is used in iv therapy? What role does a nurse in regards to choosing the equipments etc
  9. I'm currently doing this assignment on the role of the nurse in the administeration of IV fluids and fluid balance. The patient in teh case study has two lines running, one with Hartman's solution and the other concentrated red blood cells. Can anyone give me some information on the safety aspects and importance of having two lines running. Also, i need to write about the nurse's role in admin of iv fluids which includes the equipments that are to be used (does the nurse select the equipments? Is there any further info on this topic). It would be great if i can get some information, websites, articles, experience on these topics. Thank you!
  10. Most hated on my list: If i have a stethoscope around my neck "Oh, are you trying to play doctor?" When i tell somebody that i'm a nurse "Why didn't u become a doctor instead?" BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO...duh.......
  11. I've always been wondering: I've noticed that sometimes when i have an injection, it really hurts. However, other times i barely feel a thing. So my question is, is the pain of needles to do with the person injecting it, to do with the size of the needle, the actual vaccine or something else altogether? Thanks
  12. what about this: your father must have been a theft. He stole all the stars from the night and put them into your eyes.
