Need job advice
To be honest, I really don't feel that my nursing skills have gotten too rusty as I use them every day taking care of family. A refresher course would be fine, but I hate to spend the money on that and then not be able to get a job right away. I was hoping to be able to get back in somewhere without having to go through that. I don't really want to get back in to bedside nursing, but would if that is what presents itself.

Need job advice
Unfortunately, I do not have a MSN and that is the minimum requirement to teach around where I live. Thanks for the thought though...

Need job advice
I have been an RN for 13 years and worked in multiple areas within the hospital, insurance, CM, etc. I have not actively worked as a RN in approximately 5 years due to caring for elderly/sick family members. I am interested in getting back in to the field but still continue to care for family members which would only allow me to work ocasionally. My question is - Is it possible to find a job in nursing (especially now with the hiring trends so bad) that will even allow me to get back in to nursing with a flexible schedule or should I start pursuing other non-nursing options. Just not sure if I am valuable anymore to the nursing profession and if I am, where to go to be accepted back.... Thanks!

opinion re: care coordination RN
I too think that I have worked for the same company in a different location. I found it to be stressful as it was an environment of constatnt change. I had years of experience behind me which didn't seem to benefit me much as they did things completely different than anywhere else I had been. I found that if you are extremely easy going and don't mind constant change - you will do well in that environment

UR ins and outs
thanks for the feedback. I will be using both milliman and interqual - depending on the floor. I was reading other posts and it seems like everyone is looking for refence material on these programs. Doesn't the hospital provide training on how to use the programs? I know that we can access both milliman and interqual through hospital computers. I just thought they would provide training about how to use it as well....

UR ins and outs
I just accepted a new position as a utilization review nurse. It is in a small rural hospital. This is my first time at UR. However, I have had years of discharge planning experience from my first career as a social worker. I have now been an RN for about 8 years and have worked primarily on the floor in many different areas. I am looking forward to the new job b/c I really enjoyed CM and discharge planning. Not sure about the differences I will encouter doing it as an RN this time around. I was hoping to get some feedback on what to expect in the UR role including the pro's and con's - Thanks!!!!!
