Accepted but...
I was accepted to the local LPN program that starts next month. I'm thrilled and proud of myself, but at the same time, this is scaring me silly! I have three-year-old twins and I've been home with them since their birth; I'm not sure I'm ready to put them into daycare and go to school. I know I should just call the school and ask about deferring for a semester or a year, but will that "taint" me in the school's eyes? Alternatively, what are the chances that they'd let me do the program part-time? Obviously it would take longer to complete, but it would work so much better for me and my family...but that's probably not an option, eh? Thanks.

Cost of LPN school these days?
I'm in North Mississippi and the CC's LPN program is going to run a hair under $5K, including books, uniforms, various fees, etc.

Need info on: Test of Adult Basic Education (Tabe)
I took the TABE last week, 7/8, version D. I was very worried about it beforehand, almost didn't even show up for the test I was so convinced I'd tank it, and then totally breezed through the test. And I am SOOO not a math person. I ended up getting one of the highest test scores there and was accepted into the LPN program. :) The funny thing is that I studied for the wrong test. I studied for the TEAS, which seems to be much harder than the TABE (no science portion to the TABE, at least the one I took).

Brca-1, Brca-2
I've been tested for BRCA1 and BRCA2, and am BRCA1+. I was tested several years ago when I had breast cancer; I was fourth generation in my family to have breast cancer and the genetic counselor said he was 90% positive that I would have one of the gene mutations, and he was right. The genetic counselor told me that insurance almost always pays for the genetic testing when a cancer diagnosis is involved (either for the patient or a close family member of the patient's, for instance, my mother, sister, and aunts' genetic testing will be covered by insurance because of the cancer dx). Also, he told me it is illegal for health insurance companies to discriminate (e.g., refuse to cover) due to a positive genetic test....life insurance is a different story, however.
