  1. Well Nursing is a great career let me start with that. The thing is we Filipinos are to blame for the lack of jobs for Filipino RN's here and abroad. When I started taking up Nursing in 2003 graduates were about 20k a year I think. When I took the board exams we were 40k. The last couple of years every board exams there are about 80k plus who take the exams. To ask a question how many do actually love nursing as a profession? There is this false belief that nursing is the easy way out. My honest advice to people thinking about taking the BSN course. Think about what you want first. Do you really want to be an RN? If so come join us. But be prepared for the consequences. Its what I call low tide in Nursing. In the next 5 to 7 years. There are more than 500 thousand unemployed or nurses working in call centers. If you dont want to be a nurse, be a chef, an HRM grad, an accountant or engineer. There are alot of careers that can be your ticket out of the country. Last month I got denied my temporary resident Visa for Canada. I was supposed to go to British Columbia to take the SEC assessment for nurses. I already had my exam date a place to stay, about 6k dollars for extra money to bring. Paid all the fees. I had an Invitation from CRNBC to go. Even got invited to take part in some high fidelity simulation experimental exam with a dummy. Still I got denied. The reason- plenty..... They said I did not have enough money to go, but the worst is this. They said " due to very poor working conditions in your home country there is a possibility that you would violate the conditions of your stay" in short I would be doing TNT. Which I am not going to do. The reason for me taking the tests is, I would like to be registered in order to get a working permit. If I did that I would be blacklisted and could not apply for a job. A descent one that is. Anyway if I could do it again I would still try because Nursing is my life I love this Profession. The reason that I want to go out is I cant support a family here in the Philippines. I dont want to be a company Nurse for life. I miss the action. Anyway the lesser students we have enrolling the better. The law of supply and demand..........
  2. Actually I'm already invited in BC. Its just that somebody, a family friend emailed me a week ago about nursing in NFL. I have been checking it out since then. About IEN's dodging the SEC assessment, I dont know about that. Its more on the financial side I think just like in my case. You try being a nurse in the Philippines for about three months in a public hospital caring for twenty patients with no pay, with only your love for the profession as a consolation. You know what I mean? I know there are some bad apples but dont generalize everyone. Thank you for the reply
  3. Hi everyone! I just want to ask about nursing in Newfoundland and Labrador. Is there a SEC assessment in that province like in BC or Alberta? I tried the ARNNL official site already and there was no mention of that. I even googled it but I cant seem to find anything.
  4. Well its a work permit. They say I have to register at the state work force office. What is this government body for? Actually they say my London application has expired they say. They have a new one in Ireland. its something like 14euros per hour 40 hours a week excluding meals and there is free lodging. Its a nursing home. Can someone point me to a regulating body in europe? Like one for agencies like that who hire foreign workers and others for pending job offers ,where can I check?
  5. I am writing this because I need your opinion guys...... Last week I was surfing the net and I came across this website jobsly.com. They posted this job order about a caregiver for a nursing home in london for an hourly rate of 14 pounds per hour. I checked some caregiver sites and the rates are only about 5 to 8 pounds per hour. Anyway they want me to go on an interview through the net. I was not able to reply right away. Maybe a good 3 days and they said my window has closed and now I need to take some kind of assessment test and detailed credentials review. I want to ask for any job order, is there any government body that is in charge of all of this may it be nursing, caregiver or any other field? Hope you guys can enlighten me. Or do companies specifically staffing agencies need to have a registration from some kind of gov agency.
  6. Hi there! I need some help. Ive heard from some people that they have a new rule with regards to nurses with scoliosis in the US. Is it true that they wont allow you to practice as a nurse in the hospital? Cannot find any info with regards to this.
  7. This is really a very sad thing for us nurses. There are still alot of good and hardworking nurses out there who would like to live the american dream. In my humble opinion there are alot of ways to filter out those nurses who give in to schools who sell BSN diplomas for cash. Like for example banning graduates of schools who have BSN programs that last something like 2 and a half years. To narrow down the list they can also take into consideration the paasco accreditation given to schools with good standards. For me that would flush out nearly all the culprits that caused these troubles we are faced with. It would take some flexing of muscle from the government. But I hope that the cgfns would take initiative with this, after all it is their mandate to screen foreign nurses. For a job as big as this, I would not rely on the phil Gov. Im so sorry:)
  8. I hope everything goes well. God bless! Mike
  9. Hi im mike a newly graduate nurse from the phil. Im planning to take up nclex maybe later this year. Is there an expiration for the license? Like for example if you cant work there after taking the test for 2 years.
