Nursing Grand Rounds as a clinical teaching strategy
Hi, I am looking for information on utilizing the concept of grand rounds as a clinical teaching strategy. I am not finding much info on this. Has anyone used this strategy in their clinicals?

Contacted Oprah Show About Nursing Issues
You bring up an excellent point. Serious matters deserve serious coverage. So, how about a nation-wide call for nurses to devote 1-2 hours of their time to rally at their local TV stations during National Nurses week to bring important nursing issues that affect the public open for public discussion. Nursingworld usually has suggestions for nurses during NNW in May. I am sure there are a variety of suggestions that we can get from participants of this site also. This could be the year for nursing to create "a tipping point" for improving the professiona and health care needs of people we serve.

Contacted Oprah Show About Nursing Issues
I have e-mailed Oprah on several occasions about suggesting a show. You would think she would be interested, especially since the nursing shortage is going to get even worse. I have never recieved a reply. It would be a great idea for National Nurses Week. Any suggestions how to get her attention. Maybe a rally outside her studio during National Nurses Week??

Does anyone else see discrimination? Long Post but please read!
I am so sorry that you had such a horrible experience. It seems that your "punishment" was a bit extreme for not completing a set of vs in the chart. It seems like you were set-up and someone was waiting to find an excuse to have you terminated. As an experienced nurse, I would recommend that you join a student nurse organization, and then continue on to join your state nursing organization. They usually have people that can help you with situations like this. It might not help you now with your situation, but will make you a better advocate for yourself and for other nurses in the future. Unfortunately, our profession needs a lot of work at solidarity....we need to quit eating our young!

Need advice from experienced RN's
Well, I am as experienced as they come. I have done ICU,Med-surg,ER, Home Health, Pediatrics, PACU, but not OR. If you went to OR right out of school, you may want to try med-surg as the others suggested, and with a new grad orientation. Then, give that a year or more to decide where you want to go from there. I do not think Home Health would be a good place to go until you get med surg experience. The people you will care for on med surg will give you a variety of medical situations and increase your critical thinking. Then, if you decide to go to Home health at some future time, you will have a good knowledge base for the health/illness conditions of the home health clients. There is a lot of autonomy in home health, and you need to have confidence in your assessment and critical thinking. It was very rewarding, I did it for 6 years. Then, if you tire of home health and need a change again, you will be an even better hospital nurse because you will be better at understanding discharge planning and anticipating the needs of a patient when they get home. Hope this gives you some insight. Go ahead....take the path less traveled.
