  1. hey! to all HH nurses. Im intersted in starting hh and just want some input. I have been out in the field about a year. I began my career in the hospital for a short time but hated it. tried LTC you guessed! hated it. finally i decided to try an agency I started with a school assignment and loved it. I had a little guy with trache g tube total care. when school was out I did a hand full of cases. anyway, now I want to do visits but im a bit nervous because I dont consider myself fully experinced. I do feel my assess.skills are good i have alot of trache, g tube experience. I have done some dressing changes, IV's and caths. Are you given a good orientation? how many visits are you given a day? How is the pay? I recently had a nurse tell me about an agency in my area that she just started with and she has 7 visits a day and payed 29 per visit. wow! sounds great. so what do you think? thanks!:wink2:
  2. Hi, I'm thinking about trying home health nursing. I only have 4months of hospital nursing. Do they only hire experienced nurses?

    Well I started LTC and my goodness it is a bit overwhelming. I work nights. They told me 2 weeks orientation,well the 4th night they through me out to the wolves. It took me FOREVER to do my med pass and as far as charting I watched another nurse so I needed help when I was in my own. OMG I get a bit of an attitude for needing help!! I mean give me a break. Im the type that needs to do something a few times then I should be ok. Later in the day the don questions why a resident got her meds late. Another stops me and tells me in the treatment book I marked my initials on the wrong date of course its 330 in the am so I marked that day. No big deal Ill correct it. Their expectations are high Im brand new nurse in LTC never worked as an aid so it will take me a little time to adjust. Its like im expected to have good time management have all my responsibilities done and done correctly right off the bat. 4 nights and I already see why there is a turn over and questioning if this is for me. Sorry to go on rambling im just aggravated. So how long was your first med pass??? does it get better? :uhoh21:

    Hi out there! I have an interview at a local ltc facilty. What is it like working in ltc?I want the pros and cons. What is good pt/nurse ratio? Im considering 3rd shift,whats is that like? Thanks
  7. Time management is an issue for me as well organization. I feel I got a good education and my orientation was ok, I got 9 weeks but I was with 7-8 nurses during this time which made it difficult.Im still a little slow with assessments plus I chart in between fearing Ill forget.medications I have to look up.I try to keep a mental check in my head About my patients but I just get scatterbrained. I still dread giving report because I feel Im not giving enough. I hate to sound negative it has just been tough.

    Sit back and relax!!! You nailed it. I have not heard anyone fail at 85.
  10. Hi everybody Im a new nurse who started in the hospital on a tcu floor. I started in april and i am still having a terrible time adapting. Im overwhelmed, stressed, nervous, scared all the above. I believe I started in the wrong area as a newbie or maybe it is just not the fit for me. Im trying to give myself longer time, as they say give yourself at least a year. Im about to quit and try a nursing home but I have been warned by so many not to do this. I just cant imagine anywhere else being as difficult.
  11. I attended brown mackie college in ft mitchell ky. lpn program, just finished in march,great program 15 months. passed my boards. but very expensive.
  12. time to celebrate!!!! I PASSED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:balloons::monkeydance:
  13. Hi everyone I took my boards yesterday and I am positive I failed. computer shut off at 85. If I was doing bad wouldnt it have given me more questions to pull my score up? Im going crazy! cant sleep, cant eat. other nurses are telling me shutting off at 85 is agood sign. But I truly think I blew it. is the amount of questions you have really an indicator of passing or failing? I just dont understand.
  14. HI! Out there!! Im a new LPN grad. Thinking about working 3rd shift. Im married with a son. It will help out as far as sitter issues, but I feel like I wont have much time for family and stuff. any night nurses out there tell all

    Hi, Are the practice questions for nclex-pn more difficult than nclex? I had to take a nclex exam the end of the program and it was difficult, I did pass, alot of pharm questions! I will soon battle the nclex and im getting really worked up about it. I practice a variety of nclex, saunders, mosbys and davies. any suggestions for preparing this dreadful exam?:uhoh21:
  16. Kstec, Thank you for the info.As a entry level nurse, I thought it would be best to start in LTC, maybe not. The nurse/pt ratio is scarry, Cannot imagine at this point. I have a lead at a local hospital, TCU unit nurse/pt ratio 1:5.I hope this works out. I feel I will learn more in a hospital setting. Thanks Again
  17. Hi everyone, I just finished my LPN program, I should get my provisional licenses in approx. 7-10 days. YEAH!! I sent my resume to four LTC and they all called me the same day! Two offers instantly, WOW, I was really surprized. Im from Northern Kentucky, and I have to say they seem desperate for nurses. Am I missing something here? Tell me about LTC anyone. Thanks!
