  1. Thank you so much BigB..that was alot of info. I actually filled outmy app now I have to do the exam portion online; however a staffing company for dept of corrections contacted me. They place you when needed, but there are no benefits and I am worried about liability issues. I guess i just get my own insurance which i should do anyway. So i called the recruiter for dept of corrections and she said to do both. Apply directly and thru the staffing company. This way I get my foot in the door. I am a little worried though since I have no experience. Anyway.. what do you think? Do you think I should apply thru the staffing company too? Thanks again for all the info.
  2. BIGB... Thanks for all the info on the prisons. I actually received a call from someone regarding a LVN position at Chino Mens detention. She told me she was sending me an app, to fill it out and send back. They run a backround check that takes about 2 weeks then they will call me for orientation. Is that true. Don't you have to interview or anything??? I was curious as to what kind of work you do in the prisons. Do they have their own hospitals, are they clinics? I have pretty thick skin so I think I can handle it although my husband is a little hesitant about it. It is safe right?? I am not sure what level chino is, but I will look into it. I really appreciate any info you have since this is a route I am seriously considering. Also how long does it take to begin working. Is it a long application process?? I have been looking everywhere for a job and nothing, however, I do want a job in acute care. I have received a few calls for home health, but that scares me since Ihave no experience. I am going to sharp tomorrow for their walk ins. I have put my resume into a few LTC, but they all are only hiring for noc shifts. Its so frustrating.
  3. I am right where you are. I live in temecula, but the hospitals up here don't hire LVN's. Supposedly Sharp, Alvarado, Scripps, Pomerado do. However, alot of their positions are in there SNFs and if they have any acute care positions they want 1 year experience in acute care. I have emailed many of resumes, posted my resume on monster, mailed applications ect and nothing. I think its all about who you know. Start networking and asking around. I found that my husbands friends coworkers mother has been a nurse for 30 years and she works locally. I got her number and will give her a call. Good luck to you!! Did you go to the sharp health fair. I heard that was last week, but I couldn't go.
  4. It depends on what state you live in as to how fast you get your results. I have never heard of getting results the same day, but I know many states participate in fast results which usually takes two days. If you live in california, like myself, then you have to wait weeks to get your results. It is my understanding that all states other than california pay for their license before testing therefore you get your actual license very quickly. In california they send you a letter that you passed with a form to sign. You have to return your form with a license fee then wait another couple weeks for your license to be issued. So basically it all comes down to where you live. As far as studying goes..know your pharm, know your electrolytes, be very good in prioritizing which involves understanding the pathophysiology, know about isolotion and standard precautions. I had alot on OB and cancer. I have heard many say they had a few cancer questions. Know alot about patient teaching especially when it comes to pharm. I didn't have any legal questions or dosage questions. They did ask me some management skills like what time of day would you address an employee about a work issue. That kind of stuff. Hope this helps.
  5. Baylay.. No, I do not have a job yet. Busy looking, but unless you have experience they don't wanna hire you. These are jobs for acute care. There are alot of SNF jobs, but I really want to work acute care. I posted my resume on monster, but not a whole lot of action. I have also sent my resume to a few hospitals. I was told I could apply for jobs since my name and license number are posted, however I can't work until in my possession. I honestly haven't checked my mail in like a week so I have no idea if I have the actual license yet. I got my results on a friday and by tues/weds my name was listed, however my friend who got her results the same day sent hers back a day after me and her name still isn't posted. Who knows. Just keep checking daily. It will pop up one day and it is such a nice sight to see your name on there.
  6. I waited 4 dreadful weeks and so did my friend who took it on the same day.We took it on February 12, in san diego. However, it only took them 4 days to post my license number. I have a couple friends who took theirs on march 1st and they haven't received anything yet. I feel for you, I really do!!! The wait is horrible!! Good Luck!
  7. Congratulations Baylay! You got your results alot faster than I did. I sent my paperwork back last saturday and by tuesday my name and license number was posted. Very happy for you!!! Now you can rest at ease. Its such a load off your back..isn't it?
  8. Shantae.. You cannot get quick (unofficial) results in california..they do not participate in this program. Unfortunately you have to wait for the mail and let me tell you they are lagging. I just got my results yesterday and it was almost 4 weeks. I wish there was a quicker way for you cause I know how dreadful the wait is, but there isn't. Just keep yourself busy!
  9. I got my results yesterday..just shy of 4 weeks and I PASSED!!!! Both my friend and I who took it the say day, Feb. 12th, passed. Now I have to wait another 3-4 weeks to get my license. Thank you for all of your positive thoughts!!! I am so glad this dreadful wait is over. Now I can get a job!!
  10. People pass all the time with 205 questions. I would like to tell you to relax, but then I would be a hippocrit. I am waiting for my nclex results too. Its been 3 weeks since i took the test. My computer shutoff at 85, but I still feel I failed. i knew maybe 5 answers from that test. The rest were guesses. I mean I could narrow them down to two answers, but then I would have to guess. Hopefully you are not in california and have to wait the dreadful month to get your results. One of the people on my thread "awaiting nclex results" just posted that she passed with 205 questions. Hopefully that makes you guys feel a little better! Good Luck!!!
  11. Congrats Scared...well not scared anymore...I am so happy for you. Alot of people seem to be questioning getting 205 questions so its good to see you passed! That should make alot of people feel better! Mail comes in 30 minutes..so here comes the walk of agony as I head to the mailbox!! I need some valium..haha! Will keep you all posted! Thanks for the positive vibes!
  12. Baylay... Thank you so much for the info. That makes me feel alot better. One of my classmates took his 2 weeks before me, he failed and got his results in 2 weeks. Today is exactly three weeks for me. I can't even stand going to the mailbox right know. I have to open it and stand far away to see if I see any big envelopes....if they all look small I can breathe a sigh of relief. This is really getting to me. Anyway...I feel alot better know that you told me about your friend. Thanks!! Scared... Let me know when you get your results. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!!
  13. Yes..people pass with 205 questions. I see it on the board alot. I will keep my fingers crossed for you! When do you get your results? I live in california and am still waiting. Today is 19 days since my exam. I am beginning to think I really failed since it is taking so long to get these results. I just wanna know one way or another. Subterfuge.. Have you received your results yet???
  14. Unfortunately california does not participate in fast results. We have to wait for the actual mail to come. Its ridiculous!
  15. I was the second one to take the test as well. My friend heard back at 15 days and he failed. Ugh...however, there was just a holiday so maybe they are a little behind. I hope I hear something today...my mail comes around three so we will see!!
