poor man's dignity
I do not agree with your statement that the CI should lose his/her license. The CI has up to a possible 10 students at one time. He or she can not physically be with all of the students at one time. The student was in the operating room with several so called professionals. It seems no one in the room was acting appropriately. How can the CI be responsible for this person's inappropriateness when other's in the room were out of control? This student is responsible for their own behavior. We have such a problem in this country with handling responsibility, we are always looking for someone to blame! If you really believe the CI is at fault, please feel free to explain how they could have controlled this situation that was quite probably out of their sight. Maybe they were with another student putting in a foley catheter or something else. Did that ever occur to any of you who think he or she should be held accountable?? ****************** With due respect, Clinical Instructors are accountable for every misconduct that his/her students commit; just as Registered Nurses are being held accountable for each of the patients assigned to her. Accountability covers not only what you can physically reach; it covers everything that goes with your chosen profession.

poor man's dignity
".....what in the world was the student doing with their cell phone in the OR in the first place?" Great point to stress. I have seen several students in the ward making themselves busy with their mobile phones instead of doing their tasks. What makes it worse is seeing their CI's ignore such act simply because he/she is also into it. Schools of nursing should have a strict policy on the use of mobile phones during hospital affiliations!!!

sacrifices
***** Don't lose hope. All your sacrifices will be rewarded. I myself, am just beginning with the whole process. Somehow you have given me a glimpse of how a hopeful Alberta RN would be going through. :chuckle But I know we'll be able to manage everything with God's help. So cheer up my friend!:wink2:

filipino to migrate in Canada.... what to do to become a RN?
Without having processing in place, it is never recommended to go to any country on a tourist visa with the idea of staying. Just does not work for many, and with the issue of many now overstaying the tourist visas, it is much harder to get them for any country. I am actually in the US, and grew up just a few miles from the Canadian border and well aware of what goes on there as far as licensure as well as immigration. And something to think about, if you are going there on a tourist visa for an assessment, it means that you do not have an employer lined up in the first place. Again, there is no reason that most of this cannot be done before you leave for Canada, the same as what most others do. Be aware that more than likely you will be placed as an auxillary nurse and that means working two years as a nursing asst unless you have significant experience as an RN already. Pay as the auxillary nurse is about $8 to 10 per hour and will not cover most of your expenses as you think it will. Taxes are still paid on the money earned as well. Take the time to do some reading on this forum before you make any travel plans is all that we are telling you to do. Things are quite different from what you are expecting. I am sure of that. **** Thanks for that information Suzanne. I guess I also need to talk to my sister-in-law's employer who is supposed to hire me once I finish my assessment with SEC. I appreciate your help. :nuke:

filipino to migrate in Canada.... what to do to become a RN?
And for the other poster, trying to go on a tourist visa and remain in Canada is just not good idea, there is much to do in terms of licensure and work permits and cannot be done during the time of the tourist visa. *** Hi Suzanne, thanks for replying to my post.:nuke: Allow me to share a few more details about my application. I was advised by CARNA to travel as a tourist first to take the SEC assessment for 3-5 days. According to them, if the result would require me to undergo short courses, they will assist me in converting my tourist visa into a student visa. But if my assessment will not require further studies, my employer could start processing my work permit. About acquiring tourist visa, it is not an easy procedure here (as what most Filipinos claim) that is why I'm a bit anxious about the validness of my reason for acquiring a tourist visa, which is to take the SEC assessment at Alberta. Miss Suzanne, I'm not really aware of what country you are from so I'm not sure if you could answer my queries but I will sincerely appreciate your inputs about this. Otherwise, I'm keeping my fingers crossed hoping that somebody in this forum might have gone through the same process and might want to share their experiences.:) Thanks and more power.

filipino to migrate in Canada.... what to do to become a RN?
Hello to everyone on this thread! I noticed that most of you here are now working in Canada and was able to get there through immigrant and working visa. If by chance anyone had gone through the process of acquiring a tourist visa, I hope you could help me. I got my evaluation from CARNA and I need to do SEC assessment at Mount Royal in Alberta. I was just wondering if the letter from CARNA would be a valid reason for the embassy to issue a tourist visa? I hope you could share your thoughts. Thanks in advance.:nuke:

Hi Oobie, sent you PM regarding your queries. Good luck!:w00t:

CARNA Timescale
Hi Jaggy. I'm from the Philippines and had undergone the same process. Processing time varies depending on two factors. First is the number of applicants being processed because assessment is done by batches (as per my sister-in-law whom I authorized to be my representative in Canada). Second is the evaluation itself which is done by a panel (i suppose the availability of each panelist matters too). In my case, I was informed that my papers are already with them on the 3rd week of October. Evaluation commenced on the 19th of November and a decision letter (thru email) was forwarded to my authorized representative on that same day. I received my hard copy 2 months after, due to the long holiday. That is all I can share for now. If you have further questions, I will be glad to answer them. Good luck! :nuke:

Alberta: What the heck is this?? "Substantively Equivalent Competence assessment"
Hello! I'm an RN in Manila and I'm presently processing my papers for Alberta. Part of my evaluation from CARNA would be the SEC assessment at Mount Royal College for 1-5 days. May I hear from anyone who had undergone such assessment? I'm just a bit anxious about the process. Are there any review materials that I need to get hold of? Thanks in advance.

Florida or California?
Hi! That was indeed a long process. Did you request for the healthcare profession and science report? Did they also require you to have your secondary education evaluated? Was it performed by CGFNS? (Coz there are several agencies who do CES). Hope you won't mind me asking several questions praeclarus.:)

Florida or California?
Please tell me if I got your message right. Say I had my license in California through examination and eventually worked there. If I want to be endorsed to Florida, my NCLEX passing score would be forwarded to them by California. But since Florida require CES, I would still be going through the process of having my credentials evaluated?

Florida or California?
Thanks for that information. If I may ask, did you somehow worked in California before being endorsed to Florida? If yes, how long?

Florida or California?
Hello there! I wish to be licensed in the State of Florida but I'm having second thoughts because of certain factors. One of the requirement for foreign educated nurses is to go through the CES to completely analyze and evaluate their credentials. It generally takes 6-8 weeks to prepare and furnish a completed report and the processing fee is $278 apart from the Florida BON application itself($190). California BON on the other hand requires no CES and the processing fee is only $107. I thought of pursuing my license in California and eventually transfer to Florida through endorsement. Would that be possible? Please share your thoughts. Need to know if that would be a better decision. Thanks and more power.:)
