This is a silly question, but I'm a new nurse. I know it's important to use the right size cuff, but if you have an obese patient, is it okay to take their bp on their forearm? Is it accurate? I can't say that I've had to take one there before. Do you just put the scope right below the cuff as usual?
  2. I just started working on the Med/Surg floor on the 5th. I've been orienting during day shift and of course, I feel lost....like I never went to school. It's very overwhelming to me during the day and my hospital is very small. I'm switching to night shift Monday night. I was wondering if it's slower, less stressful? Do you usually stay busy? I'm sure my sleep cycle will be pretty messed up for awhile. Pros/Cons? Thanks.
  3. Wow, that's really not a lot to start off...especially for all that hard work we've all done. I live in southern MS and have worked at Wal-Mart for almost 5 years while I was in college. After the hurricane, even Wal-Mart employees are now making 9 + an hour. Hmm...I would think LPNs and RNs would be bumped up a little. Maybe I just need to move to a new state. lol
  4. good luck and relax!
  5. I took the RN test. This time I mainly focused on questions....I borrowed a Saunders book from a friend and also her Hurst review CD. I had to take Rhinehart in school, but I found the Hurst CD much better. Also, if you can find a delegating/prioritizing book, I would advise you to get one.
  6. I tested June 5th and I PASSED!!!!!!! :monkeydance: :balloons: 3rd time was a charm Good luck to everyone who still has yet to take their test!
  7. I just hate that it doesn't tell you much when you fail. It tells you below, near, or above passing rate on each section. That doesn't really help much.
  8. I went to Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, MS. I did the RN program, but they offer an LPN also. It's about 45 minutes interstate driving from Slidell and very easy to get to.
  9. Best of luck! Mine shut off yesterday around 155ish. The closer you get to 265, the harder it is for the computer to determine if you are on the passing or failing mark...which means you're in the middle I guess? I'm sure you did fine! Keep good thoughts in your mind!
  10. The questions in the review books certainly aren't like the NCLEX questions. Bleh...I'm just going to keep taking it until I pass!!!!! :angryfire
  11. So I'm hoping that the 3rd time is a charm on June 5th! Both times I have had 265 questions with no luck. I really had LOTSSSS of prioritizing questions on the last one. I was sure I passed. I graduated in December and my school made it mandatory for everyone to take the Rhinehart review. I have that huge book, Saunders, and a Lippincott book. I can't afford to pay for anymore reviews. Can anyone tell me what helped them? I have test anxiety for sure, and I'm just really stressed out! Should I focus more on the "reading" material or the questions? Lately I've been doing questions. Thanks in advance!
  12. I'm about to take mine for the 3rd time and I agree...I just don't think I'm a good test taker. It's so frustrating. I don't have $300 to shell out for more reviews either. Both times I had 265 questions, and the last time I had TONS of priority questions. I just knew I passed. Nope! Good luck next time! Hopefully I'll pass on June 5th!
  13. I just got my retake results back. The first time I had 265...second time 265 and still failed Everything said "near passing". I am sooooooooooo upset and EMBARASSED that I have to take it for the THIRD time!!!! :angryfire I don't want to have to be the one to take it 20 times! I am not stupid, why is this so hard for me? I'm really disappointed.....I really want this, I've worked hard.
  14. I took my test for the second time on the 28th. The first time I got 265, as well as this time. I was soooo waiting for it to shut off at 75 like most everyone else. I don't know my results yet. I tried to focus more...I got really tired and careless the first go around. I feel this time I got wayyyy more prioritizing, higher level questions and my last 4 or 5 questions were higher level. I don't know if that means anything...but I do feel more confident this time around. I just hope I passed this time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. I just graduated from Pearl River Community College. It's not too far from you. They had a good bit of people from all over too. Great school...good reputation.
