  1. Well all that studying payed off. I passed the NCLEX-PN. I am so happy. I decided not to stay at the job I was at. I went back to what I love. Working with people with mental retardation. I plan to apply at a really good sub-acute facility when we move just a little bit closer and work one to two days a week so I don't loose my skills. Life is great right now. Thanks for listening:roll
  2. I am a new grad and still waiting on my test date for the N-Clex. I recently took a job at a facility on the sub-acute floor on the 3-11 shift and for the most part I really enjoy it. I was offered a job elsewhere on 7-3, however I declined that position because the DNS at this facility was very upfront with me and told me what she would expect from me as a nurse on this unit. I really liked what she stood for and what she wants out of her nurses. The problem is that I have been there for 1 month now and I feel like I am getting somewhat of a handle on things and want to be able to try things on my own. How else will I learn? This weekend was great I was able to take a med cart and have my own assignment. Tonight I get their and it was supposed to be the same thing however one of the other nurses who is also an LPN was having a major problem with it. She stated I am not responsible for her, and she is only supposed to be by herself if the RN is on the floor at all times. Well our RN supervisor floats throughout the house all the time on evenings, and this wasn't a problem over the weekend. If I was to screw up it wouldn't be her at risk and even though I am not yet licensed I can still be judicated for any wrong doing and the RN would ultimately be responsible. I also have no problem asking questions if I am unsure of something. I even have another nurse always check my injections because I don't feel comfortable with that yet. I just feel like when I do get my license I will be thrown to the floor and not feel confident. At least right now I am on orientation so their is always someone to go to if need be. I just feel like I take 5 steps forward and 10 steps back. I almost think I sould take that day job at least their will always be an RN on the floor and I could get started on my new career for real. Sorry for the long post. I hope someone can give me some advice.
  3. Hi everyone! I need some advice. I recently graduated from an LPN program. I have not yet taken the N-CLEX. When I was in school one of our clinicals was on the labor and delivery floor. I loved working there and ultimately decided that that was what I wanted to do. However in the part of Connecticut I live in the hospitals do not hire LPNs. I would also like to have a baby of my own soon. I am 27yrs old and have a very hard time getting pregnant so I don't want to wait to much longer and my husband doesn't either. I was wondering if anyone had any advice has to if I should wait to have a baby or wait to start school, or not wait for either. Also if I was to start school I would like to go to Uconn however I know they have a huge waiting list and I hate to pay all the money for pre and co-requisits and not be accepted into the RN program. How long should I wait to apply to school since I just graduated the LPN program. Sorry for the long post, but I really need some advice. Thanks to all who reply!!!!!!!!!!
  4. In some areas the hospitals do not hire LVNs/LPNs. You would have to check with your local hospital. Most sub-acute facilities come pretty close to a hospital setting. Well the ones I have been in anyways.
  5. If you have any sub-acute facilities near you you might want to check them out. I am not licenced yet but started working at a facility on the sub-acute floor. Starting pay is 20.00 for Gpn 21.00 for Lpn and 22.00 for second shift. The sub-acute unit there is just ike a hospital setting. Well pretty close anyway. They have a long term floor and dementia unit. Same pay.
  6. We were in labor and delivery for clinical and my instructor came into my patients room with me to check an episiotomy. We got the patient in the position and we were checking for REEDA and my instructor says wow thats the best one I have ever seen!!!!!!!! The patient replied thank you
  7. Hello!!!!!! I am a new grad. I start orientation for a job on Tuesday. I am 27yrs. old, married and living with mom right now due to going to school and running short on cash. We are hoping to buy a house soon and start a family. I plan to go on for my RN. When I did clinical in labor and delivery I really felt like that was my element and where I need to be and to do that I need my RN.
  8. Xenogenetic I do remember that article. I have heard the area is bad but had never actually been their myself. I have driven through Windham but never stopped. Thanks for the info. Maybe I can convince my sister-in-law to go somewhere else!
  9. Hi Chris! How do you like Gaylord? I am a recent graduate of an LPN program and considered applying at Gaylord and Hospital for Special care. I would appreciate your input. Thanks :thankya:
  10. Hi! I live near Ledyard. I am a new grad so I am not sure how much I can help but I can try. In connecticut you can only work for 90 days as a graduate LPN I am not sure about RN. I am not sure how long it will take to transfer your license however I do know that you can test in RI for a Conn. license. A girl I went to school with is sitting in Conn. for a California license.
  11. I personally have never been their, but that is the hospital my sister in law goes to and she has never said anything negative.
