  1. I am also in the same boat. I have been an RN for 12 years now, and am feeling very disheartened by many things I am seeing. I believe in a more natural/preventative approach to life and wellness, and am sick of pill pushing. I live in NY where we are presently fighting a mandate for all healthcare workers to recieve flu shots annually along with the h1n1 vax. I am outraged by this and find myself questioning the entire profession. I have realized I need to be serving people as a nurse in a different capacity, and would like to become a holistic practitioner. I am not sure which avenue to persue in the realm as there seem to be so many options out there, and then what to do with it when I am done with my training. I have a dream of opening my own business/natural healing shop...any other ideas for schooling out there?
  2. Debbren, Are you just starting the cnm program, I wasn't sure by your post. I am in the process of applying and looking for any info about the program. I live in NY and love the cost of tuition as compared to Frontier. I started at Frontier about 7 years ago, but had to put it on hold when I became pregnant with my 2nd, and now have 4 kids!! I feel a strong pull to complete my training as a cnm so, here I go!!
  3. Just wanted to get some insight/input from anybody out there who cares to weigh in. I am a former L&D nurse and for the past 6 years have been working in homecare on and off as a case manager, always full time. This job can be pretty stressful and overwhelming with paperwork, patients and family matters. I do love the flexibility that comes with the job though as I am a Mom2-4 now, unlike my user name! I also like the freedom of being out in the community and not trapped in the hospital for 8 or 12 hours. I find myself however missing L&D so much and longing to be in the delivery room, and helping a woman become a mother and bring her new baby safely and peacefully into the world....ugh....what do I do!?!? I am thinking that if I worked a job part time night in L&D, I would make a little short of what I am making now full time in homecare. I just do not know what to do! Any ideas....
  4. I think the best way is to simply apply and interview for a position. I was hired with only experience in labor and delivery, and some doctor office work. In fact, most of the new hires at my agency are new to home health and coming from various backgrounds in nursing. If you really want to make the change I think all you have to do is go for it and apply! Good luck!

I am a mom of 4 kids, 2 are school age. I really enjoy the flexibility of homecare. I am able to schedule my patients around my personal life which is great! I am almost always home by the time the kids get off the bus. Each time I think about leaving for various other reasons the flexibility always becomes a huge reason to stay.
  6. Hello, I did complete the LNC training. I have been off work for 2 years and home caring for my kids. I am going to return to work next week and will be working in homecare. I will be a case manager. I worked briefly as an LNC, but found it difficult to work at home with my kids. Good luck with your BSN!!
  7. Hello, I have also done the BSN program at UWO online. It was a great program. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about it. If you want to PM me I can tell you more about this and the VM institute.
  8. Hello, I am just wrapping up my CLNC training through the Milazzo Institute. I will sit for the exam on Friday...It has taken me a year, but I have had a ton of things going on in my personal life that has slowed down my studies. I am glad to be almost done though! It was a good program and very interesting.
