Hello, My office is looking to hire a NP with DEA registration for a pain clinic we are starting up. I live in Virginia and can not find anything stating whether the supervising physician of the NP must have a DEA registration also. If anyone knows or can find this information could you please reply with a link to your reference? Thank you very much!

I graduated in May 2008 so i'm out of my "first year" but I still feel like this was the best place to post this. It's long so if you are able to read it all I'll be really impressed but I just need to vent! I haven't had a lot of time to be on the site but I am going through a hard time right now and don't have anyone to talk to so I thought, this is the best place! About 2 months ago I started becoming very uncomfortable in my position as a home health nurse. I only worked in the hospital for 6 months before I moved here and had to get a job. Home health was the first job I was offered and the concept sounded great, make my own hours, go to peoples homes etc.... In home health you have to work completely independently, you may be the only person to see that person for weeks. Well, I consider myself a very good nurse and I am very quick to learn and love to learn. So i learned every possible thing I could about all my patients and a lot of things I had to teach myself. To make a long story short it got to the point where my employers were expecting more of me than they were willing to take the time to teach. So I asked to switch from full time back down to PRN. I was willing to take on all the patients I had scheduled...just like a two week notice...but they called me and said don't worry about it they had it covered already....so this was out of my control. They stopped giving me patients all together and I had to get a temporary job at another agency. That went great for a while but now its over and I got an email from my old company saying "Sorry but we won't be able to use you anymore because we are too afraid you will leave again". So now...I'm out of a job. I have applied at all the local hospitals but everyone is pretty much on hold right now and I don't have much experience. Luckily I got a lot of infusion and IV experience with my home health job. I am using this to my advantage and just interviewed for one infusion nurse position I was lucky to find on the internet and did a working interview. I really loved the facility and would love to get a job I also joined up with a staffing agency who was able to get me a great interview at an oncology office in DC. I am just very nervous because they advised me to really talk up my IV skills. I am very very good with Port access and PICC lines but I need more experience in starting IVs before I can say i'm really good at that. I do feel comfortable starting IVs I just can't say I'm the absolute best person! Sorry this is so long...I just needed a place to get my thoughts out! Thank you for listening if you got this far!

IVIG infusions are required to be monitored by an RN at all times.

I have a question for those of you who do long infusions in the home...what in the world do you do to keep yourself busy! Last week I had a man having 6 hour IVIG infusions for 4 days straight...needless to say I caught up on all my charting the first day and I was bored out of my mind the rest! I'd love to hear the stories of others!

I am going to be starting Home Health full time and was wondering how those of you with children make your schedule?

I am starting a new position as an RN in home health and i have to pass both a verbal competency and written competency. My agency will deal mostly with Antibiotics and wound care, any one have any tips on what to expect?

So I am moving to Northern VA and I am looking at jobs and a lot of the ones listed on line say they are day/night shifts. Does this mean that it is either shift or you have to do a day/night rotation. I have 2 small children and I have to have night shift, should I apply for these positions anyway?

I have not gotten through my 90 day probation period. I feel really bad because during this time my sister in law passed away, my son got pneumonia and was hospitalized, and now I have pneumonia. I am only supposed to miss 2 days before getting terminated, I have missed those 2 days plus some but luckily found someone to cover my other shifts. Now my doctor wants me out for a week...and I could not get a hold of any managers or employee health...I was supposed to work saturday, I spoke to my recruitment person from HR and she told me as long as I've left messages I should be fine but I was not so sure... When I finally got a hold of an assistant manager she told me not to call the nursing office (general procedure for calling out) but to call my unit manager. I called her twice, emailed her, and paged her twice. I didn't get a call back but i got an email back about 4 hours later. She said that she would talk to HR and her AVP on monday and see what she could do and to rest and feel better. Saturday rolls around...my job calls, saying i'm a no call no show. i explained the situation, they decided to call the manager...she was unavailable. Sunday I was scheduled to work so I called the unit, talked to the person I'd talked to previously to find out what to do, she said she was going to speak to the ANM but the manager should have let them know my situation. Today I am informed by manager that I should have known to call the nursing office and now I have 2 no call no shows.... I am 27 weeks pregnant, and can't afford to loose my job but I have had it up to my ears with this nonsense...

From what i've seen I don't think its MANDATORY, but a lot of people do it...so I'm wondering

I am orienting on a busy Urology/transplant unit right now and I hear a lot of nurses talking about how they work 4 or 5 nights (12s!) a week with only a day or MAX 2 off in a row. And as far as I know they sign up for this.... I can not do this! I am 16 weeks pregnant and right now I can only handle working every other night, do you think they will look down on me for this?

I took it yesterday and it also shut off at 75 and like you, a lot of people in my class passed with 75 so I am confident!

I am anxiously awaiting to see how you all did! I took it yesterday and it cut off at 75 questions. I had a FEELING that number 75 was my last question so it didn't freak me out...I'm afraid I am feeling a little too confident that I passed....does that make any sense?!?!?

So I am starting my new job as an RN, pending I pass my NCLEX on tuesday, on July 21st. Since I have not signed any paperwork saying I'm an "official" employee I decided not to reveal my pregnancy. I also was not pregnant when I interviewed. I know technically they can't fire you...but it happens in this right to work state. On July 16th I have a health assessment and they are going to want to give me some vaccines, tetorifice and a ppd test both of which I don't want as I am pregnant, so I will have to reveal this to them. I feel slightly weird about doing this as I have not told my manager yet...what do you guys suggest I do? I could email her at anytime but am really hesitant to do so before I sign the paperwork at my health assessment..
