New job in LTC and not feeling too sure about it
I can understand what you are going through. I have been in nursing for 22 yrs. and recently tried LTC. I quit after 1 month. I could not keep up and it was stressing me that I lost 4 pounds in one week, heart raced all the time and cried everyday. Do not worry about others. I agree with taking care of yourself first. Life is too short.

Burn out/ disgusted/ QI
I can so relate to you Carinchic. Healthcare has lost site of the basics and focused too much on statistics, money, and bs. Sorry to add to the misery but that is where I am. Nursing is not what it was 15 - 20 years ago.

can anyone relate?
I have been a RN for 16 years. I have worked mainly in hospitals, also in dialysis. I took a position in a LTC having no experience. Oriented on unit for 3 days with me having half the load, not really having a mentor. People were nice but this is not orientation as I know it. I quit after 3 weeks. I could not keep on the time schedule for med pass of over 24 patients, still unsure of all the paperwork. I feel so incompetant. Makes me think it is time to hang up nursing. I am also starting into menopause. I just wanted to know if any other experienced nurse could not do LTC????

from hospital to long term care
Thank- you everyone. I am so use to bedside nursing that I am hesitant in giving that up to give inservices. Like I had said I am a quiet person and do not know if I have what it takes. I can get nervous when it comes to public speaking. Again, am I borrowing trouble? I really want to get out of hospital nursing.

from hospital to long term care
That is one of my fears, being accepted since I have no LTC exp. I also think it would be a good idea to work the floor to see what they do and work on getting a little acceptance. Keep the advice coming, I need it. Thank- you to those that have replied, it helps.

from hospital to long term care
I have been a nurse for over 10 yrs. Experience in ICU, Med Surg and management. Wanting a change and am considering a position with a LTC doing staff education. My first love is patient care but am thinking this could be a good change after all these years. My question is could I do this since I for one have no long term care experience and no staff education experience. I am thinking as a nurse I know the education part it would just be hard at first. Please send me your ideas.

Jcaho Medication Reconciliation
I have another question on this new "policy". Upon admission say the patient is unable to answer what meds they are on, there is no transfer sheet and you have to go by the H/P from the ER doc. Then you have to call the pharmicies and maybe the doc's office to add to the list. Now how accurate is all of that?
