  1. I have been a RN now for 3 years. When I got out of nursing school no L&D or mother/baby jobs were available to new grads because they said that med/surg experience was preferred for 2 year. Now that I have the experience behind me all of the jobs are requesting OB experience. How am I supposed to work in the area of nursing that I like if they will not let me get the experience?? Are there any suggestions that you can give me to help with this difficult job search??
  2. Hey! I am moving to IL within the next year. I have been an ortho nurse for about 2 years. I am looking to hopefully change to OB/mother-baby/NICU from what I understand they like you to have experience. But what do they expect not everyone is able to get the job they want right out of school....does anyone know if they have some experienced RN residency type programs to help with a transfer to another unit? how hard is it to change units anyway? Any input would being greatly appreciated. Thanks!:wink2:
  3. What does being endorsed mean? I am looking to move to IL, I have an IN license. DO they have you take the NCLEX again or another test?
  4. I really understand what you are going through. I have been own my own for about 2 months and I feel the same exact way. Every night before I go to work i almost have a panic attack. Every night when I leave work I feel like I have forgot everything. I get the same amount of patients as you do even though i know it isnt right. I knew that i didn't like med/surg when i took the job but everyone kept telling me that i needed to have med/surg experience. if you hear any good adive please pass it along. goodluck to you ...if you ever need to talk feel free to PM me because everyone could use someone to talk to who understands
  5. Tomorrow is my last day of orientation and Monday I start all on my own. I am terrified! I work on an orthopedic floor and yesterday my boss called because one of my patients developed foot drop and where I assessed it( she couldn't flex her foot i thought it was due to pain) i forgot to document it. I know that it wasn't due to something that I did but it made me think what happens if something like that happens when I am on my own. I mean my preceptor didn't even pick up on it either. I don't know if floor nursing is for me. I mean I get myself so nervous before I go to work. I mean the nurse to patient ratio is like 8 to 1. and I don't feel like when I ask questions I ever get a straight answer. I feel like if i ask 5 people the same questions i get 25 different answers. what if I don't like it? what if I don't do well? I guess I just needed to get that off my chest! Thanks for listening
  6. I agree with almost all of the posts so far. I have been out of school for a year. and working as an RN almost 8 months. I work on an ortho/neuro unit. and I can't stand it. We are so understaffed it is unbelievable and i feel like I am not ready still for being on my own. I am only putting in my time on med/surg floor so that I can say I did it because I cannot wait until I am quit and do something I really like. It is completely different from what I thought it was going to be like. I was so not ready for what I saw when I first started. At least I feel like I am not the only one going through this because I thought that I was weird. Good luck to everyone!
  7. I think that Kaplan was a great review and a couple girls who I know who did not take it some of them did well while others did not. Kaplan does not re-teach you things from nursing school, if it did then you are right what would be the point. Actually one of the things my instructor from Kaplan said was that she would not answer questions based on nursing content. Kaplan gives you the strategies you need to pass the test that you might not have had through nursing school. I would encourage anyone, even the smartest girl in my nursing class, to take Kaplan cause it can't hurt your score.
  8. I know exactly how you feel. I have taken the NCLEX twice and I can retake it as of 3-17. I am also afraid of waiting til after april 1 but I think that you should focus on studying. that's the most important part. I understand how you feel about just wanting to be an RN already but if you aren't prepared you might..God forbid...have to taken it again and wait another 50 days or so. I am in fact waiting. I am trying not to focus on what people are saying and trying to think positively. Good luck and stay positive!!
  9. My computer shut off at 75 questions too. Unfortunately when it shut off all I kept hearing in my head was " When it shuts off at 75 you either did really good or really bad". It is not that unusual to not pass at 75. I did not pass but just keep thinking positively..I am sure you passed. Goodluck!
  10. If you could email me the tips that helped you I would be soo grateful. I have failed the NCLEX twice and I will do anything to pass the third time. My email is [email protected] Thank you sooo much
