  1. Olivia. I had a hard time with stats too and took it with a nursing course. We can do it. Just 8 weeks. I think the capstone will be easy... it's a great chance to "See a need fill a need".
  2. Isn't the capstone one big project? I wasn't too worried about taking it with Econ next session but maybe I should be.
  3. Yeah I guess in my mind I was happy to have the 4.0 as a cushion knowing I'm not good in math, but as I get closer to applying for a master's program it's a little disappointing to think I won't look as strong on paper. Ahh well! Econ in July.... I'll be getting all the help I can.
  4. Wonder if you're in my class! I just ordered my book today. I couldn't get a feel as to whether it was truly needed or not. Three classes this session I'll be busy trying to hang in there. We can do it!!! Think October!
  5. Well I just said goodbye to my 4.0 thanks to my brain rejecting the last half of the statistics class..... I was hoping I could do it.
  6. My advice would be stick with one of the topics they offer for your final paper... otherwise you may get tangled up in trying to find good arguments and spending a lot more time than needed. Otherwise it was not a bad class.
  7. Has any one applied for and or done a portfolio for Collab Health or Community Nsg?
  8. Thanks Dawn, If you are looking for an article on the practice with good references it's on NANN this month. Colostrum and oral care in the NICU. I love the idea and want to start it in my NICU but am getting some hesitency from the docs. Thanks for the input.
  9. Thanks for the reply... can you tell me why your unit decided to start this practice? Was it received well from the Neo's and what do the parents and nurses think? Were there any concerns about doing this from the docs or nurses? Last question.... what region is your hospital?
  10. Yes I know how you feel, the first semester I was taking a human lactation class during both sessions with 2 classes each. Next session I have three nursing classes and then econ and capstone. glad to know it can be done, although just a little nervous to try to keep up... I'm trying to propose a position at my hospital in the midst of this and study for my IBCLC exam and going on vacation. I guess I will be telling my son to get ready for easy dinners too! And the laundry forget it! HAHA... it's all worth it thoughto get this schoool thing over with!
  11. That's great Christy. All you needed was a break. Well both be graduating in Oct!
  12. Boonce1 that's great! Can't wait to get there. Although it feels far away! Did you ever take 3 classes at the same time? Good luck with FNP!
  13. Hi Ann! First you have to find a school that is right for you. Whether you are looking for a cost factor, how many credits they will accept, the school ranking, future masters degree potential... Whatever it is that will drive you to a school. I chose a school and at the last minute changed my mind. You will ne er really know until you start the classes. I can tell you I chose Chamberlain because they didn't require me to retake any classes and have a good research based program which is must in nursing now. But, they definitely aren't the cheapest. They do give good support and their program is well formulated for the working adult nurse (so far). No matter where you choose to go just make sure it's accreditated for the future. And look until you can't look any more at every school you come across. Things have changed and online schooling is the norm now. Every school want you to do well. Good luck. It's a long journey and as for me I origionally thought I would be done at BSN but have recently found my niche and plan to continue on.
  14. Hello all, I am looking for units that use colostrum or any breastmilk for oral care. I would like to start a PI project within my unit but would like feedback as to who else is doing this and how everythings is going. Thanks
  15. Thanks Lunah! I hope to try to portfolio out of community or collab. Not that my resume is stellar or anything but I think I'll try. I wonder how many have been able to do that...
  16. Hi Kim, We have been using barcodes for quite sometime and yest the band needs to be on the baby. Although annoying we are identifying the baby and not another item like the crib. This is a big JCAHO strike! We have gotten creative with some and put it around the outside of their clothes while their tiny enough, or added additional bands to make the loop a little longer and easier to get to. And still there are those that put it on the pulse ox.
  17. Ok in a bit of a panic! I am doing three classes next session Community Health Nursing, Evidenced Based Practice, and Collaborative healthcare. I'm not worried about the content as much as I'm worried about the trip that I had prescheduled for week 7. It's my 1 year anniversary and we wanted to be cheesy and go back to Jamaica the same place for our honeymoon. Any recollection as to whether I will be able to do some pre writing in any of these? I don't know if there are tests or group projects or papers or what! I know the resort has wifi but I just want to prepare myself before I go or take a pay penalty to reschedule. Thanks for any advice:) mona
  18. It is tempting to stay at Chamberlain and be done in a year. Plus we get an alumni discount. Maybe MPH should wait. Oh Im torn
  19. Christy... Things happen... That's why we are adult learners. December will be here before you know it. I'm rushing for a purpose; but it comes with a large consequence - stress. I just keep pressing on and hope that each 8 week session goes faster and more smoothly than the last. Take a break but don't lose sight of your goals. Mareeh... Chamberlain is fully accredited; you should have no problem being accepted into a program because of this school. Especially since they already have their own online program.
  20. I'm in Stats and History. Have had a 4.0 thus far and hope to hang onto it til the end. Next session I'm being brave and taking 3 classes. We'll see how it goes. They are Economics, collab health and another nursing class. Then on to the last two classes to finish up in August. Hope I can keep my GPA up so I can pursue am MPH degree. Glad to see all are doing so well. Chamberlain has been great. Christy don't worry a out the Cultural Diversity paper it won't be bad. I was worried about it too.
  21. tmarie. what type of job did you transition to after school? did you find employers more interested because of your nursing background? were you able to be placed in an advanced role like administrator or director? i'm between two schos now but the more i look around the more i am drawn to this field. thanks
  22. Thanks for the response. I am also becoming a lactation consultant and not sure if going back for an mph or above is worth it now or if a certificate will give me a good start at gaining more knowledge and experience. Also I wonder if I will always have to say I'm certified in PH since you don't get credentials behind your name. Can't wait to hear from the Mrs.
  23. Good question, I want to get into Public Health too and am finishing my BSN now. I don't know if I should go on for my DNP or MPH or get a certificate. I don't think you can do anything with the certificate because your not qualified to sit for the test... is that right? It's also hard since the movement is to do DNP now.
  24. Not sure if you still check this thread; but TMarie could you have taken more classes and graduated sooner than 2 years? I am interested in pursuing my MPH degree as I will be the lactation consultant for my hospital and I am in several advocacy organizations. Not sure if I should get a degree or a certificate. I definitely don't want to be in school for an additional 2 more years. I am completing my BSN now. Thanks
  25. I took Health Assessment with Evidence Based Nursing and it was fine. It's requires a lot of writing but it in't difficult to do.
