mds mountain of work with no help
I live in California, an LVN doing long term MDS in a snf. RN does the skilled. I get $28.00 an hour.

Mandatory meetings and night shift
At my facility, the mandatory meetings are also held at 2 or 2:30pm and to tell the truth, night shift hardly ever comes. There are always threats in the posting of the meeting (discipline if you don'e show), but guess what! Nothing ever happens!

LVN MDS Coordinator here. I put my foot down and only go to department head meeting. We have Unit Managers. They can go to Care Conferences, Restraints, skin, etc, etc. We have a 120 bed facility and two MDS nurses. I do the long term and the RN does the short term.

websites for LTC staff development
Was a DSD for 8 years before I gave it up and went on to MDS's. I used competition a lot for all sorts of things. Post the weekly skin number, accident numbers, employee incidents, etc. Nobody wants there station to be the worst. You can also make up games like wheel of furtune, Jeopardy (I used bells purchased from the dollar store) Pyramid. The winning station or shift got a special prize. Maybe just a box of cookies or candy but it was thewinning they mostly liked. Administrators will sometimes kick in the $ for small prizes if you discuss it with them. Good luck to all you new DSD's. It's a very hard job but can be rewarding. Most states have an annual DSD conference that is worth going too. Lots of ideas picked up there.

covering her butt
If I had been in charge, I might have requested the noc nurse put in any late entries that were valid. She may very well have seen the resident in the missing time frame but if nothing was unusual may not have charted it.
