UOP is expensive! I think when I get done the total will be about 20K. My cost is the low end because I only had to take 4 classes (gen 300, A&P, college algebra, pharm) then nrsing classes. I have a previous degree which helped out with other gen ed. classes. My advice to ANYONE going to a private university is to get your general studies done at a community college (while on a waitlist for your school of choice). It will save you thousands in the end. The minimum time it takes to get a BSN at UOP is 2 1/2 years (18 months). Longer of course if you have to take pre-reqs. Hope this helps!!

Hi jennrose...I would say you definately need to tell your clinical instructor. I'm sure it's going to be scary, but it's something that the instructor needs to know. Thank goodness your patient was fine and nothing adverse happened. Remember you are working as a student, and mistakes happen. Just next time be more careful..double, triple check if you have to! I received a private message from someone about this..however, I cannot reply. So..I will respond to both the private message and the last message posted. I am currently in the UOP LPN to BSN program in Colorado. It definately has its pros and cons. The format is traditional, so you do attend weekly classes. There are clinicals, as required by the Board of Nursing. UOP is accredited by the Colorado State Board of Nursing. I know UOP had some issues in the past few years and had some low NCLEX pass rates. The program has gone through some changes, including adding the HESI and other things. My take on it is...you get out of your education what you put into it. Most of the instructors I've had are good teachers and they try to help you succeed. I also realize I need to put forth the effort and get out of it what I need to succeed in the program. Hopefully they can work out the kinks and make the program even better. UOP, along with other nursing schools in Colorado, now has a two year waitlist...so if you choose to attend UOP, apply early!!

I agree with what is being said but I still think that with hospitals not hiring nurses due to economic reasons, the existing staff at some hospitals might continue to have high patient ratios and that will compromise patient safety. I know everything is money...money...money. The reason I posted in this forum is because I plan on moving to Las Vegas once I graduate (I now live in Colorado). I'm trying to get a feel for the healthcare climate here. And yes...once we are back on solid economic ground, I hope hospitals start to hire again! There are too many people spending alot of money to get their nursing education!!

That's crazy to think that nurses are getting laid off. With the long standing shortage of nurses already, wouldn't that impact patient safety? I mean, there's already not enough staffing and now they are laying nurses off?? That makes no sense.

I know this is an old thread but I went to Pickens and got my PN certificate there 10 years ago. Pickens is considered a part of the Aurora Public School system which means it is cheaper than private schools. The instruction format is comparable with Emily Griffith and it's a regular M-F program like all others. I'm sure some things have changed since I left but it is a long-standing program. The waitlist might be better than CCD, ACC...but again I'm not sure. It's good to have options, though!

Thanks so much babyktchr! I'm in the process of trying to decide what my focus will be when I graduate in a few years. I know it will be somewhere in the realm of OB/GYN but I hadn't heard alot about Mom/Baby. I want to be in an area where I can teach and make a difference. During my two childbearing experiences I got treated like I knew nothing and one nurse even told me to be quiet while I was in labor with my second son. So...I want to enter this area with a mother's empathy and a nurse's expertise! DesertRain, it's ok that some don't want to take the time out to answer my questions. But I am thankful for those that do!
