  1. sarah, I'm so sorry to hear of your dx. I've been a nurse for 30yrs. and you are living a nighmare that many nurses fear. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. TREATMENT for hiv has improved so much in recent years and I'm confident will continue to, so you will benifit from this and live a long productive life. God bless kprnc58
  2. Why are we afraid to talk to our pt's about their weight? It's time we treat their obesity as the disease condition it is, and educate them about the consequences of it: sleep apnea, diabetes, heart disease and osteoarthritis to name a few. It's obvious that many physicians are uncomfortable with this topic as well. I've cared for many pt's who were oblivious to the fact that their 300 lb. weight was the reason they were having a knee replacement at 40 y.o. and that they could likely improve the pain by losing weight. We are doing them a disservice by not talking to them about their weight.

Hi to all nurses. I'm an "old R.N." working in a small hospital in mn. We do alot of joint replacements. Would love to hear from nurses about their experiences with blood loss in totals, and at what hgb's your dr's order transfusions. We also use suretrans system for autotransfusion and often see fevers within 48hrs post op, anybody else see this? kprnc58
