Hi everyone, guess there aren't many Shreveport nurses on this forum, but I am desperate (which is why I am posting on this forum as well as Louisiana forum). I got an interview for night shift RN position on med-surg part time. Any ideas of what to accept/suggest as pay? (I am new to the area) I have about 3 years exp. but have been out of work almost 3 years? Thank you for input. I have gone on salary websites but they are not very accurate. I know it I went in and asked for what these sites are suggesting I would get laughed out of the interview...

The Dr. sound like the problem. I wonder if he will want morphine on his death bed??? I would assume they are considering this after scopalamine patch tried??? Ignorant question but would it be more comfortable to be suctioned, I mean afterwards for the patient??? I don't know. Or would it just come back worse and prolong? Kudos to you hospice nurse BTW. Asking these questions because I may one day (if I am ever ready) want to be a hospice nurse.

Wow. That's intense. I have utmost respect to you and other hospice workers. I am not a hospice nurse but what about a clergy member or spiritual advisor of some sort visiting her...even if she is not religious or especially if she is not religious. I would be scared too.

Hi everyone, getting back in nursing after two years out. (About 2 1/2 yrs exp. med surg and neuro) I've applied Part-time and Relief position on Med/Surg, Tele, and a Rebab unit nights and various shifts, Really curious as to what I should even suggest as pay IF (cross my fingers) I get an interview. Any input would be appreciated. Will take full-time if I need to as well, I mean if they are only willing to orient me that way? Also is there a job shortage? Wow, just in 2007 when I graduated I wasn't even interviewed because there was such a nursing shortage. What is the deal? Getting nervous...

I'll check it out. I recently went to book store and got "portable Rn" which has a little on everything and really practicle things like oooooh I forgot about that and it is something really simple. Uggg so hard to clear cobwebs out aftertwo years of not studying anything except TV. Just like working out. I will consider this course and still considering refresher course, all least i would be forced to learn it.

Hhhhmmmm. Where and what exactly is this? Sounds like something I would be interested in. Online? Thanks. I mean obviously, I know what health assessment and physical examination is but I am wondering if such a course exists outside of nursing school...Thanks. I will google it now.

Hi everyone. I am curious. My son and I Maybe going to live with sister in Oakland after my divorce. I am from Louisiana and am an RN with almost 3 years med/surg and neuro, but have been out for 2 years. Would be willing to work wherever would hire me. at first. (conditions at previous hospital were pretty hellish so used to it) Just curious how long it has taken all of you to find work. I will be getting spousal support for a little while but...

Phew and Lol. So True about happy to get out of the room during a code to take care of other pts or pee or chart. Yeah, the ACLS idea was a little moment of insanity. So not ready to do that yet. Good idea about the classes of drugs etc. I will start on that and dosage calculations and procedures I know I will be using. Like iv and cath eeeekkkk. I forgot.. . And I am sure I will be getting whatever job I can get so I am sure it will be med surg or something similar. I am a little scared of those tests facilities give at the beginning of job... I think I will post a question about that. How embarrassing would it be to fail that during new hire process.

Hi everyone. I am trying to get a job after being out of nursing for two years. I have a little over two years med-surg experience. I decided to hold off on refresher course until I see how my applications are received.But I know I need to study on my own meds etc. I just don't even know where to begin? I really want to study the nitty gritty, not restudy the theory and all of that, so I don't look like an idiot or worse hurt someone. Any advice? I have all of my books and notes from school. Was also wondering if I should get acls certified, my bls is current but honestly I think if I were to be put in a code situation right now I would freeze. I know scary. Do you have to really know your stuff to even take an acls class? Your responses have helped so much in the past .

Hi, everyone. I would really appreciate some input. I have two years med-surg staff floor nurse and 2 months of travel agency neuro. I quit to get married and haven't worked in two years. I have recently applied for jobs but was wondering if I should go ahead and start a refresher course. I live in Louisiana and there are no refresher courses near so it would be online and I heard it was really hard to find places to do clinical for those. Though I don't know if I need it I was just reading around this site and it seems like it is more difficult to find a job. I didn't even get interviewed really at the last two hospitals I worked at. It was really easy to get hired. But after two years off??? Any help or advice would be appreciated. I am really nervous.

Hi, everyone. I am working on my resume. I have been out of work for two years due to getting married and just wanting to take a break and enjoy being new wife and stay at home mother. I am now ready to go back to work. (Although really nervous) I have about three years experience on med-surg and neuro. My question is, do I address the two year break on the resume or cover letter? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks everyone so much.
