  1. Maryville University has a weekend/evening program also. Chamberlain's online program is closing, but they are opening an oncampus weekend/evening program. Don't really have any details. Have not heard of any programs that are strictly weekends. Good luck:nuke:
  2. Thanks for the well wishes. Good luck to you too Paper1225. I am actually due to graduate at the end of this term March '08 WOO HOO I cannot wait to get done with CCN. I was really happy for you Oct grads when I heard they were extending it for you. It would suck to get that close - and pay that much money - only to hit a wall. KrisC, glad they got your loans refunded. Please don't hesitate to start another program based on your experience with this one. I know that each program has its quirks, but this one has to be at the top of the heap for "quirkiness" (trying to say it as nicely as possible) Also, even though you have your refund I would hesitate to sign anything without legal counsel. After all, did they reimburse you for your time wasted, emotional distress, etc??? Just a thought.
  3. Yes. Chamberlain's online program is being closed. Luckily (I guess) I am set to graduate at the end of this term and will be allowed to sit for boards. Chamberlain has assured us that since we are graduating from an accredited institution we will not incur any problems. My classmates and I, however, are wondering the same thing you did - how will this affect us when trying to obtain a position?? I can only hope that it will not have a negative impact, and if it does, that I can prove damages for legal action. I paid a ton of money for this program and am now just hoping that it will all work out. What else can I do? Like you said, noone is going to transfer my nursing classes. Classes graduating thru October are going to be allowed to finish, I don't know what the other students will have to go thru, but I fear for them!
  4. Well, speaking as an online student due to graduate March 08, I would say that learning the skills has definitely not been the difficult part of my education. We do, after all, have the same amount of clinical hour requirements as on campus students. The problem with the online program is the lack of communication between students and administration. Also, one must be very self disciplined and willing to spend a lot of time reading. Although, I would imagine that would apply to the on campus program as well. I agree that no program is going to be a walk in the park. I also agree that for the most part my instructors have been good. Two of my favorite instructors came over from Sanford Brown. Go figure :rotfl:
  5. Noone knows what will happen yet. We received an announcement on the student portal apologizing for any inconvenience and telling us they would work with each of us individually to make accomodations. Those of us who have dealt with this school know that that could take years:uhoh3:!! Good luck with your loan situation. I may be in the same situation soon - erghhhh
  6. Well I hope you took the advice from the other posters and turned your energy towards a different path. I am a CCN student currently 12 weeks from graduating the ASN online program in St. Louis and yesterday received the official announcement from the college that they would be working with the board to close this program. I love your comment about online nursing being a wild concept - apparently it was too much for this school to wrap their heads around also!! :angryfire Their pass rates are in the toilet for both the online program and the ASN on campus program. I highly suggest you take your money elsewhere.
  7. Thanks for the good wishes. I will take all I can get. My school preps us with ATI testing this week and then I can sit for boards. I have no idea how many practice exams and test review questions I've done so far, but it doesn't feel like enough, but I'll keep your advice in mind re: what is going to kill the person first Good luck with your BSN. I can't wait til I'm there. The anesthetist program looks really intense, but very rewarding. Good Luck to you.
  8. Hi Wayne. I found your version of online learning a bit off base from the online program I am currently attending. I understand anyone being leary of the prospect of online learning. I myself was not thrilled with the idea when I started my program almost a year ago (2 more weeks til I can sit for NCLEX-PN, then another year to my ASN-RN) However, I can assure you I have spent many, many hours working at this program. Clinical experiences started in the second semester with real hands on experience. The theory portion that you sit in class for is the only learning we actually do "online". I live close to my school so I don't experience the 3-4 day validation experience you mentioned, but I can tell you that those students who do live out of state will go through this in addition to clinical experiences set up in their home town. As far as going cheap charley, my school currently charges more for online classes than they do for oncampus classes and I am paying a whopping $485.00 per credit hour. EEEK While I will admit there are some glitches with my online program, I would not call it cheap and I would not call it easy and I would certainly not call it less time consuming. If anything, I spend more time on these classes than any I ever took on campus, because there is less direction which means you either put in the study hours and learn as much as you can or you fail. All in all I do agree that "you get what you pay for and you get what you put the time into back out of it". But I would say that goes for all programs, not just online learning.
