  1. Wages are a bit on the low side, but so is the cost of living in the Spokane area. It really is a great place to work and live.
  2. I'm from Spokane WA and as a student have spent quite a bit of time in all of the hospitals in the town. I'm not sure how it is in other areas of the state, but here there isn't too much of a nursing shortage, so it's a bit more difficult to find an opening, but at the same time there isn't the burnout that you hear about in other areas.
  3. I'm kind of in the same boat as you are, but I'll be finishing up school here in just a few months. During the time that I've spent in the NICU as a student, I've talked with the nursing manager about what I can do to help my chances of getting a job after I graduate. She recommended taking an NRP course and a 1st 18 hour course. In addition, one of my instructors pointed out that joining a professional organization like NANN could really help.
