  1. I attended PCCUA a few years ago at the Helena campus. After talking to students from other schools I can say PCCUA is a lot tougher then the others but in their defense I can say I learned a lot more then those other students. They have excellent instructors who are with you in clinicals instead of some other schools that cut you loose to do clinicals on your own.
  2. I am getting really confused with the scope of practice allowed to Lpn's in Arkansas. It's nothing against the Lpn, but I can't understand how some hospitals allow Lpn's to hang blood, have only Lpns work in the ER without direct RN supervision and push any drug ordered by the physician. If they can do everything the RN can do why hire RN's? Again I'm not complaining about the Lpn but the powers that be that allow nurses to put their license on the line to save money.

I just have to ask how many ER's still do enemas in the ER for constipation? We are a small hospital but we have one doctor who orders KUB's (Abd series) on every patient with a tummy ache and always orders enemas till clear.. If theres a shadow on the xray then he or she is constipated. This really ties up a room for a while. Just curious.
  4. I'm 44 and just received my RN after over 20 years in law enforcement. So I guess your never too old.... :)
  5. Don't give up it happened to me and I passed!!:typing Good Luck!
  6. hopefully it will be a small evenlope from your BON. Good luck!
  7. First, don't count yourself out. People pass with any amount of questions, a specific amount does not mean you failed. So perk up and have some fun you've earned it. If it turns out you didn't pass, it's not the end of the world as much at it feels that way. I took it 3 times with 265 questions twice before I passed.
  8. I agree, no one feels like they passed. If they say that then their hiding their own fears. No one can guess how the test grades at any certain point so Good luck...
  9. If your looking for a magic answer there isn't one, this board or any other web site. The only way is you and studying, procratination gets everybody, trust me I'm the self proclaimed expert at it and I passed. Do all the questions you can from the disk included with Saunders, kaplan or any other source. Those questions and practice test will help you in all areas. Be sure to know major lab values at least and basic nursing math. By doing those questions and test it will remind you of diseases and complications that you MUST be familiar with at least. There is no way you can learn all the drugs this short of time so go over the drug classifications and the side effects of those classes. By doing this it will increase your odds on tose type of questions. Again do all the practice test you can find and then do them again and again. Repitition is the key to remembering in this short of time and when you need a break and want encouragement we're here.

    congrats!!!!!!! I'm still partying!!!
  11. Trust me, if I can pass anyone can :)
  12. Way to go!!!!!
  13. Take a break, get your mind clear and then get back in here with all these great folks. We're all in nursing together and if nursing is what you really want we'll be there for you. Just remember there are many, many people that have taken this anxiety driven test and finally passed and became great nurses.
  14. If Nursing is your dream don't ever give up that dream. If your reading this then it's probably because you failed your nclex or are trying to find a shortcut on learning the information to pass nclex. I am proof that anyone can pass nclex if you really want to, if it is knowledge deficent or anxiety. I am an Army veteran and I was a police officer for 20 years, I've been shot, stabbed and in numerous altercations over those 20 years, yet when I went to take nclex I was scared (you know what). Anxiety can do that and do it to anyone. The way to overcome it is to recognize it and calm yourself down. Slow your breathing, stop answering questions and raise your hand and take a quick break. The pearson test people will allow you to take one, all you have to do is ask. I believe if you made it through nursing school that you can pass nclex. The knowledge is there and you exercise that knowledge by going over questions, taking practice test and lookig at the rationals. I know 4-5 thousand questions seems impossible but if you do a 100 or so every day it adds up fast and you'll be suprised at how much you will recognize on practice doing this. I said around a hundred so you won't overload yourself. Either way don't give up!
  15. Me, me me me me. I took it Monday and passed with 265.
  16. Before the first exam I had taken Hurst and that was about it. I didn't take my instructors serious about doing 4 to 5 thousand questions, so with the anxiety and my classmates getting up after 75 questions I knew I was in trouble. I can't say if Hurst helped, but the review they give as with any other live review stress on knowing the basics. But if your not putting those basic with actual illnesses it's not going to help. The only way you can do that is to do lots of questions and look at the rationals. The couple math problems were not hard, and be familiar with basic lab values. If you really want to do well and not take any chances be familiar with widely used drugs and their classes. When you know what class a common drug is in the side effects are easier to recognize. I guess the reason I'm stressing going over lots of questions is that Nclex ask questions that make you think about a combination of items to come to a conclusion. Nursing schools as with most reviews, you memorize and cram and now you need to apply that. Trust me, I didn't think taking practice test and practice test would help, but it makes a big difference.
  17. I don't know how to thank all of you that have encouraged me and to those who have given suggestions. I have no doubt without this board and all of you it would have been a much harder and longer road without all of you. Trust me after taking test two times and getting 265 questions twice and failing the first time you can tell my anxiety. Again thank all of you and if there is anything I can do to help those that need a little push to pass just ask. I'll always be around this board.......:bowingpur:bowingpur:bowingpur:bowingpur:bowingpur
  18. I was praying mine shutoff at 75 yesterday but I went for the long haul again, 265. I love your odds a lot better. Good Luck.
  19. Congratulations!! How did you find out so fast?
  20. I'm going CRAZZZZY!!! Everyone in my class passed NCLEX but me, I had 265 questions the first time and failed. Then I heard another person in my class got 265 and passed. So I take the test again and guess what? 265 questions again. I feel better about this test, I felt more prepared, but having to wait several days to get the results is driving me NUTTS! It's pass this time or does anyone have a JB Hunt application? I wonder if McDonalds is hiring. Arrgggghhhhhhh
  21. I had a lot of returning which phone call first questions. Several which client do I discahrge first and a bunch of select all that apply. On the drugs I agree there were a lot that I've never heard of, but if you know the major S/E of different grops and know the groups it would make a big difference.
  22. Well I finished after 3 and a half hours with 265 questions again. I thought I was doing great when I hit 75 but it kept going. I had at least 12 select all that apply, andonly 3 math questions. Almost 60% were discharge which client first or return which call first. Several drug side effects questions. I know I got the last question right, but I've heard different theories on how much influence it has on passing. So I guess I'll be tied up in knots for the next few days waiting to see if I passed.
  23. Well Monday I go back for the 3rd time. first time with 265 questions and the second a hundred and something. I've studied up til the time I posted this and I'm scared crapless again. I need all the help I can get so if any of you have great thoughts please throw them my way. Thanks to all on this board who have helped those of us needing that extra push.
  24. I know how you feel. I graduated last May after coasting through one of the hardest nursing schools around. I mean we start with 80, graduate 20 after having two chances to pass HESI exit or your out. I know they do this to protect the 100% nclex pass rate they have. Well that was until I came along. I made good grades, excelled in clinical and then on nclex I get 265 questions and fail. I was totally embarassed, and had to quit work where I was working with other classmates that passed. I received my sheet a week later showing all at near passing, so I scheduled to take it 45 days later. Then I failed again...... with 155 questions. his time it showed all below. Well now I'm taking it and not telling anyone when I do, nclex has been a killer to my ego and pretty well embarrasses me anytime I see my wifes (RN) friends or my former classmates. Sorry about carrying on, but I just want you to see your not alone......... Good luck to us both. :)
