  1. Hello everyone, I'm hoping to get some advice from you all about my current situation. Any helpful pointers will be greatly appreciated. I'm starting up my 2nd semester of the nursing program at St. John's/SBU in Springfield this August and I'll be graduating in Dec. '09 with my ASN. My fiancee has recently accepted a position with a company in Tulsa and therefore will be moving there for this great opportunity. My question really is how to best finish my nursing education and become licensed in Oklahoma in order to begin working in Tulsa. I currently work as a MICU tech and have the opportunity to receive tuition assistance thru St. John's (that extra money would come in very handy, believe me...), for every semester paid I would contract to work for St. John's for a year. Knowing now that I'll be wanting to seek RN employment in Tulsa is it wise for me to accept this tuition assistance? Would I be able to negotiate with a potential employer to pay this money if I were to contract with St. Francis or St. John's-Tulsa, perhaps? I'm just looking for some practical advice about this and any and all answers will be so appreciated. Thanks a lot!
  2. Welcome Farmgirl, Congratulations on passing your NCLEX!! Like you, I have come to nursing as a second career. I nearly went to nursing school right out of high school (23 years ago, yikes!!), but at the time was kind of intimidated by my being the only guy in the information seminar. I backed out and took another path only to find myself at 41 years old doing what I should have done all those years ago. I'm finishing up my pre-req's this Fall and have my fingers crossed to be accepted into the nursing program at St. John's-SBU in spring '08. This site has lots of great information on it and I thoroughly enjoy reading it.
  3. I'm registered for APII and Micro this fall. Last semester I had Chem, API, medical terminology, and a New Testament History class (required for graduation from this Univ.) I received all A's. I'm not really nervous about the number of lab sciences I'm taking at the same time, but I've certainly learned to prioritize and study every day. I found that keeping up with things is a great help. If you fall behind and find yourself cramming you're in a heap of trouble. I also discovered that studying in smaller blocks of time works for me. I simply cannot sit down for 4 hours on one subject. Take it in smaller chunks and you'd be amazed how much your brain can absorb. Good luck everyone
  4. I received an A in API. I will take APII this Fall. Our classes only meet once a week so the 3 hours of lecture and 2 hours of lab are classes you just can't miss. Our instructor advised us to study 12 to 15 hours outside of the classroom each week, I thought he was kidding at first....he wasn't kidding, though! I really enjoyed this class and have the same instructor for Nutrition in the Fall. I made the Trustee's Honor Roll this semester--4.0--very happy with that since I'm returning to school after 20some years!!
  5. Hello everyone, I too am enrolled in A&P I this semester along with Chemistry and Med. Terminology. I attended a junior college 20 years ago and am fortunate to have some of the prereq's out of the way, but am very nervous/excited about being back in the classroom. I'm starting all of this at 40 (41 on 6Jan) and look forward to getting through this process with all of you.
  6. I know that OTC has a very good LPN program, as to an RN program I would check out St. Johns College of Nursing (ASN and BSN), Cox College of Nursing (ASN and BSN), and Missouri State University (BSN). There are also LPN programs in Reeds Springs (Gibson Tech, I believe), ADN program at Crowder College in Neosho, and a BSN program at MSSU in Joplin. Hope this helps you out. Good luck in your factfinding.:yelclap:
  7. Hi, everyone. I live in SWMO and will begin my pre-req's at St. John's in Springfield in January. I'm hopeful to then be accepted into the nursing program in spring '08. I nearly went to nursing school right out of high school (22 years ago.....) and feel so excited that the calling for this profession never left me. I look forward to visiting here often and talking with you all. Rich
