  1. To all of u ER nurses I tip my cap (will try to find that squashed thing!) to you. My dtr recently had to take my grandson to the ER needing stitches & she was absolutely balistic by the time she did see a doc. Not mad at the nurses but the families of the patients-not he kiddos either they were dragged there by the supposed adults in the family. She described so many of the people like you have described them (she isn't in the medical field!). So I thank you for your hard work!
  2. I have not worked in the ER but when I was woking in a hospital in central TX this Hipanic family came with grandma to the ER with a serious nose bleed. Ok understand that the family cares alot but it was almost 2100 when they brought her to the floor for admission & there were over 15 people with her & she was in a semi private room, had to get security to remove them. Not being prejudiced but in my experince here in TX is that a lot of Hispanics do bring the whole clan to the ER for even just a broken finger. If the shoe fits in my opinion whethr it be a Hispanic, Jewish Oriental or even German family then accept it as true. This is a great thread have not laughed this much in awhile!
  3. This really needs a beverage alert! Laughing so hard my hubby was concerned that there was something wrong with me. These are all great. Kitty
  4. Oh yeah can identify with all you are saying about following other nurses (guess that is what they are!) that havent' done their work. Have been asked by more than one residents family why when I pass meds their family member gets more meds, why I stand there to 'watch' the pills go down since I know the resident will take the medicine & other nurses just leave the pills........ this rant can go on & on. Then TPTB will come down on me & the 6-2 nurse for what our reliefs do or don't do! I have tried to call report to the ER when am sending a resident out for various reasons & depending on day & time (here in TX 7pm seems to be the rush hour in our er) the nurse will act like she doesn't care or will wait & see what rolls in the door. After being a pt myself @ the er it might be that the nurse I call report to probably won't be the one taking care of my resident. There are different pods staffed by different nurses etc so that also might be the reason for attitudes.
  5. Kellygirl, This could have been me a month or two ago. I have fibromyalgia along with the usual arthritis that we acquire. My nurse manager (not just a coworker!) also has fm & noticed that I was having a day with more pain than usual. She takes Ultram for fm & gave me one of her pills. Yep it helped but after reading what has happened to you won't do this again at least not until I have my own script!
