Flu Nurse
I do not know if his is the correct forum for my post, but anyway I will post it here. I will be working this flu clinic and the organizers are still looking for RNs. I don't know if they will use LPNs. I have removed the phone number in case we are not allowed to post companies phone number here. The Flu clinic is on this coming Thursday - November 19th. We're so excited to have you all on board for this Thursday's event! The details of this event remain highly confidential, however we can now share a few details. You will be one of 300 nurses taking part in this year's UberHealth initiative. Uber has partnered with Passport Health to provide free flu shots on demand, and you will be taking part in this exciting event! This will be a national event and is sure to generate a lot of media attention. We are still looking for nurses in a few cities. If you know any nurses who may be interested, please direct them to https:/jobs.passporthealthglobal.com to complete your application and call XXXXXX to speak with a member of our Team to complete the HR process. We need to hear from nurses in the following cities by tomorrow! We will be sending more details about this week's event in the next day or so. Please watch your email and feel free to direct any questions to our team. Thank you!

RN/ RPN/ LPN
Thanks Renzlao I am moving from USA. I have CNA experience and now an associate RN. I believe the Canada NCLEX is also 3 times a year. I was looking at the Nurse aide, PSW etc jobs, and they all needed some sort of certification or registration. Most if not all the Nurse aide, PSW, RN, RPN etc look like they prefer Canada experience. I called a Nursing agency in Toronto and the recruiter I talked to asked me if I had Canada experience. So that looks like it is an important asset. By settled I meant being done with all the registering, extra courses, etc and having a RPN/ RN full time job. As I understand it, I will only be able to work as an RPN/LPN. I am single so I can move to anywhere where the jobs are Do you think it would be helpful if I got say Phlebotomy certified and other certifications before moving? I have drawn blood, started IVs, but I learn at my work. Also, should I start my RN to BSN programme in USA or wait and do it in Canada? I do not want to do it here and then still have to do extra courses in Canada. Thanks

RN/ RPN/ LPN
The impression I have from the Nclex exam schedule, need to do a bridging programme etc is that it could take an average of 1 to 2 years to be fully settled as a nurse. Is that correct? Are you fully settled? How long did it take for you to be fully settled?

RN/ RPN/ LPN
Hello people, I am a nurse with a PR application that is processing. I have a few questions for the nurses - Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses/ Licensed Practical Nurses What has been your experiencr since immigrating, especially 2013, 2014 and 2015 immigrants. Which province are you in ? How was it getting licensed? Did you need to do a bridging programme? Did you need additional certifications? How long did it take for you to take the exam and get licensed? How long did it take you to get a job? Did you work as an unregelated healthcare worker like CNA while looking for nursing job? Did you work a non healthcare job while job hunting? Nurses, let us discuss your experiences here.

Experience immigrating to Canada
I got my ECA and the evaluation said that I have a diploma in Canada equivalent. My immigration attorney said the points I have is 68 points. I sent him all my docs. My attorney is evaluating them and looking at all the provinces. Also, I am current enrolled in an online RN to BSN program, but I am part-time because of other expenses like immigration. What are my prospects of getting a job offer from the US? I have not really tried because I my friend who immigrated from US to Canada did not get any job offers even though he applied for several jobs. He only got replies after he moved. Thanks

Experience immigrating to Canada
Please what has been your experience, under the new rules and criteria that came into effect this year, on immigrating to Canada? I am a US trained Associate/ADN RN that has just begun the process of Canadian immigration. I have homecare experience and I got my RN license in 2011. Does an Associate RN be an RN or LPN in Canada? How easy or hard is it for an ADN RN to find a job in Canada? Thanks

RNs and Phlebotomy
I am looking for a phlebotomy course for RNs or people already in the medical field. I looked at the phlebotomy class in the community college and it is time consuming and lasts a whole semester. It has courses that teach about what blood is, A&P etc that are for medical novices not for RNs. Are there phlebotomy classes geared towards medical personnel like RNs etc? Thanks

Excercise Question
Thanks. I forgot to add that she said she runs about 2.75 miles in 30mins on the treadmill at 1.0 incline. Where does this excercise fall?

Excercise Question
A patient asked me this quest and I did not know the answer. What is moderate to high intesity or moderate intensity excercise on the treadmill? What is high intensity excercise on the treadmill? I guess low intesity excercise - cardio - is walking like one is in a hurry? Thanks

Am I The Only One?
I graduated last year May and took the NCLEX exam in September. I am still lokking for a full time job. I am tired of applying without any positive response. I am in Philadelphia. I even went to my alumni's career services office to have my resume revamped and improved a couple of months ago. That does not seem to have improved because I am still getting responses like "You do not have any RN experience", "We will keep your resume on file and contact you if any openings arise" etc What can I do? How long did it take you to find a full time job in the hospital?

What is Your Expected Rate of Pay?
I was asked this question yesterday by a prospective employer. I had applied online and left the place for pay blank. Maybe because I just graduated last year that I do not know what to ask and be confident that my pay is reasonable. I usually leave it blank because I do not want to frighten employers away by asking too much. I responded to the "what is your expected rate of pay" question by telling them that I did not know their pay rate. The HR then replied and gave me what she said was the range for my area - $25 -$36 depending on level of experience. I know 2 former classmates of mine who work at this facility and were started of at $30/hr so I replied the HR with $30/hr. Should I have said $36? Is anyone like me who leave the salary/pay part blank? or do you fill it out? How do you come up with a number?

Certifications And CE
I am still looking for a full time RN job. I was thinking getting the First Aid certification might help and I think some states require RNs to have First Aid. My state does not. It is $80 and 4 hours class...so will it help? Also, I was looking through a Nursing magazine and it had a Continuing Education 1 hour 'class' in it. I answered the questions and returned it with $8 to get the CE. Will it help to get the CE? Also should I get ACLS certification on my own? Is BLS the same as the CPR all RNs carry? Thanks

Experienced Nurses Also Have It Tough
You are right....I do not know full story. She most likely did not tell me the full story as we are just acquintances. And maybe the fact that she is probably in her 40's even 50's plays a role.

Experienced Nurses Also Have It Tough
I met a nurse at the place where I got my criminal background check done She told me she has been an RN for 2 years and had work in the hospital. She said it was Critical Care. Basically, she resigned from her job because she said was not getting along with the other staff. She said she has been looking for another job for close to 2 months now, without any success. She is now recieving unemployment benefit. One caveat though is she said she does not want nights and had rejected a part-time night position. But it got me thinking, if she with critical care experience is finding it difficult to land a job, what about the new grads with no experience?

First Interview Experience
I interviewd on Monday for a privately owned Home Health Care Agency. It was my first proper RN job interview. The lady did not ask me many questions. She first of all gave me an NCLEX style test of 25 questions. Apparently, I did well even though I had not studied after August 25 - when I sat for NCLEX. I answered most of the questions by elimination, not by knowing the answers per se. There were no Maths questions. Aside from the many forms I filled out, she asked my why I became a nurse and if I had worked in Home Health. So I guess Do all RN interviews include an exam? I found it curious that I had to pay for by Criminal background check.

Communication Barriers with Preceptor
Every one talks with an accent. You might only be used to an American accent but Americans like every other country citizens talk with an accent. I know people who find it difficult to understand Americans.....bwhy?.....because of their American accent. You will encounter people with various accents in the hospital who are sick...you will have to deliver the best care possible...and the ability to communicate effectively is a requirement. Also a lot of the Doctors and top staff are foreign born so will have Non-American accents.

Questions About First Interview
Thanks Also, do I need to brush up/review my nursing notes? Do interviewers ask questions like "what will you do in this senario?", "What med will you give for XYZ?", "When do you give XYZ med?" etc sort of questions? Is it correct for me to assume Math questions are always a given?

Questions About First Interview
I finally recieved my first call from a Home Health Agency last week. I scheduled the interview for next week Monday. It is in another state, but I am ready to move if I get it. I am just eager to get a proper RN job. I have been doing the Flu/Immunization stuff and it has slowed down. I was told it slows down at this time of the year. First question - since I apllied for so many jobs, I do not know the specifics of the job - I will be interviewing for. Should I ask the HR person about the job before the interview or should I wait till after the interview? Second question - should I go in scrubs and snickers or formal shirt/trousers? If yes for formal shirt, with tie or no tie? Third question - should I go with a copy of my resume, license, CPR, Insurance etc?

This is Exhausting
I have applied to about over 50 jobs online today. It is so exhausting and time consuming. Most if not the jobs require experience and special certifications or course taken. I applied to them any way. Do others find it exhausting? So I just wait as usual for a response from them? Do you keep track of all the jobs and places you apply to?
