  1. Curlygirlrn, I live about 2 hrs from Charlotte, nice city to visit but don't want to live there...crime rate very high, roads are messed up as far as traffic patterns are concerned. Winsto Salem is really nice, for the up and coming if you know what I mean, several people I know live and work there. Don't know much about Va. It is very hot in NC (Charlotte & Winston) I mean hot, sticky, muggy, you can't do much but stay on the beach or by the pool on those days...BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!
  2. I wear clogs and I work in the OR...do not have a problem keeping them on my feet, and have not had a problem running for an emergency...the name of the clogs I wear are ANYWEARS. Guess after you get use to wearing them they are like any other shoe. Our facility changed the dress code after so many nurses complained because they could not wear clogs, so now its ok...
  3. spinecnor LOL, that is great, and most likely true...rnor
  4. Thought everyone would get a kick out of this... Top Ten Phrases Heard in The OR 1. I do it the same way everytime 2. See one, do one, teach one 3. Blame it on anesthesia 4. It's on back-order... 5. Did the sales rep bring food? 6. Turn up the music 7. Give me what I need, not what I ask for... 8. Because we've always done it that way! 9. It's on my card. 10. Who brought the CD's?
  5. Get a lawyer, get a lawyer, get a lawyer....NOW. Like Shay said one with SHARP TEETH.
  6. Becka, I've been a nurse for 21 years. I work in a 64 bed hospital, small town, and there are 2 small hospitals within 6 miles of each other, they pay about the same. I work in the OR, I get paid 19.89/hr., call pay is 2.00/hr. we take call 1week out of the month. We do not get time and a half when we come back for call. If you have not worked 40 hrs. that week you do not get overtime.

What is it with employers now? Seems they want the nurses to give, give, give but they offer nothing in return... My place of employment is the same way. Also, if you call in sick, but then work overtime on another unit, which gives you 40 hrs., you do not get 40 hrs. and the sick day, it's one or the other. Nice huh?
  8. In North Carolina ( very small town) where I work in the OR the pay is not bad for the area. I have 21 years experience as a nurse, 13 of these in the OR. I make 19.89/hr. Pretty low considering....rnor
  9. We had one surgeon that would pop your hand if you passed an instrument wrong, or if you turned towards the backtable...he would also throw instruments in the laundry bags, across the room, at the nurse, what ever caused the problem they received the flying object.
