  1. Awesome! Thank you so much. I appreciate your help.
  2. What does s/p MVC mean? It was written as the Primary Diagnosis in my patients chart today but I'm not sure what it stands for. Can anyone help? I do know that she was in a motor vehicle accident, is this what the MVC stands for? I just wouldn't think that would be part of the diagnosis name. She also had multiple fractures. Can any of you help me? I'd really appreciate it.
  3. I recently quit a job without notice due to major depression. I've since gotten help from a psychologist and would love to return to work. However, I quit my last job without notice, so I don't know whether to list them on my resume or not. Do any of you know what potential employers can see on the CNA registry? I know when I log into my account on the registry I can see the places that I've worked before and the dates but can they see all of that or do they just look at whether I'm "eligible" or not? I'm not sure what to do.

Thank you all for your replies. I appreciate you taking the time. I think I'm going to go for it. :-)
  5. I am thinking about taking a Micro (4 credits) class as well as an EMT (6 credits) class this summer. They are each two days a week (4 hour classes) and run for 10 weeks. I have no children and won't have to work this summer. Do you think this is too much for a summer semester? Have any of you done this?
  6. Thank you for your replies. I've taken a speech class and did okay but it's been about 8 years ago. I'm just starting back to school after being out for so long. Hopefully once I give a couple speeches I'll see it's not as bad as I think. pagandeva2000 - I'm not exactly sure what all is taught in the Advanced class. I just know that it's required before I can work in the hospital. Again, I appreciate your responses and thanks again for the tips, they will definitely come in handy. Jamie
  7. Hi all! :) I am just curious, of those of you who've taken an advanced nursing assistant class (120hr) how many of you have had to give a speech? I know it sounds silly but I am deathly afraid of speeches and I start my class tomorrow. I just want to have an idea of what I might be in for. Thanks. Jamie
  8. Yes, but I believe I'd need my EMT-B before they will let me ride. It is definitely something I'm planning on doing once I get my certificate. The problem I'm having right now is that if I want to get my EMT-B and EMT-P before the ADN program starts I will need to quit my job within the next few weeks....this makes me a little nervous. However, it is something I was planning on doing in the spring anyway so I could get my CNA cert and get some experience under my belt before starting the program in the fall. I know that getting CNA experience would be valuable but I'm wondering if EMT experience would be even more valuable considering that I want to eventually work as an RN doing Pre-hospital care. I want to do everything I can to have my resume stand out among the many that I know will be applying for those positions and I know that once I'm an RN, probably starting out in ICU or ER, just learning that job will probably be enough for at least the first year or two so I'm just wondering if I should focus on paramedic training now. What is your opinion on an RN taking a short EMT-P course and challenging the test?
  9. my goal is also to eventually become a flight nurse. i have been accepted to an adn program for next fall. my initial plan was to get my cna certification and work for the local hospital as they will pay for my tuition after i work for them for six months. however, i really think that getting some prehospital experience as an emt/paramedic would be great experience for me while i'm in school for my rn and i know i'd enjoy it more than cna work. unfortunately i don't have much time until the nursing program starts but i could just barely get it all done. we have a 1 month emt course at the university and the immediately after the paramedic course. i would be finishing up with that shortly before i start the adn program. my question is, do you think it would be a good idea to do all of this? i definitely want it bad enough but i want to make sure i do everything right. i've read on other posts that you should work as an emt for a while before going on to get your paramedic, do you agree? i would be able to start working as an emt while going through the paramedic program, would that be good enough? and then, when i start to work as a paramedic i will be starting the nursing program at the same time, will it be too much? sorry for such a long post, i just need a little direction. thanks for your time.
  10. I just have a question for Gompers, could you tell me where you are located in the Midwest? That pay sounds excellent!!! I am not a nurse yet but I know from looking up salaries at the local hospital (Iowa Methodist) here in Des Moines it is anywhere from $19 - $25. I'm assuming they'd start a new nurse out at the base salary. Anyway, just trying to compare location and salary. Thanks.
  11. Great, thanks for your reply. I think I'm going to go for it. Wish me luck! :wink2:
  12. I have been interested in becoming a flight nurse and need a little direction. This has been a dream of mine for about ten years now. Unfortunately, due to family issues I am just now able to get started with the whole process, however I do feel fortunate that I'm even able to do this at all. Anyway, I start an ADN program next fall and I was planning on taking CNA classes in the spring just to get my foot in the door with a local hospital since they will pay for my tuition. However, I am wondering if I should take the EMT-B class instead in order to get some PH experience under my belt while I'm in Nursing school. I've also thought about doing both, cna part-time and EMT PRN. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My ultimate goal is to have my RN/EMT-P. Another question, I have read on other posts on this site that once I have my RN I can challenge the Paramedic test. I would like to hear a few more opinions on this. I know that some of you don't think this is a good idea because the two fields are quite different. If I were to work as an EMT while in school for my RN would this be enough ph experience or would you suggest taking the complete paramedic training. Sorry for the long post. Again, any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.
