  1. Hey all, New grad, starting ED on monday. Excited and Nervous. What do you all recommend during the orientation phase, and the soon to come autonomy. Dont have much experience, but I love nursing, I love what I do and the profession. I love the fact that we are saving lives in an active way each day! I hope not to lose this passion. Give me advice All!!! Look forward to reading all of your advice and wisdom! Thanks. ER dude
  2. Hello, I am not replying about the job, but just wanted to say how encouraging it was to see you verse about CHRIST. I think that this is a blessed profession that Christ will work through in so many ways. GOD bless with all that you do.
  3. Ok, I will be starting the ED soon as a graduate nurse. I think, Ithink, my ultimate goal is flight nurse. What can I do now to prepare for a possible position? Im a male. What are the requirements (weights and such)? Should I get time as a medic, or just BSN, I have an associates. What is the respectible path? I am a sponge , ready to soak up the info. :welcome:
  4. Ok, so here is the deal. I am an avergae student. My recent HESI was about a 704 without studying. Do you think that I am a passer. I feel like I am not going to pass because Im not smart enough. How about you all, were you really smart students. I feel that there are those out there that it comes sooooo easy to. Then there are those that I can relate to that are hard workers who just barely get by. Some thoughts, encouragements, advice? what boat were you all in?
  5. Wow, I am nervous to start in the ED. I had done my preceptor there and felt comfortable, but I think that I didnt have anything too difficult. Any advice on how to begin, how to adjuct from the orientation preceptor to being on one's own? It is an a great excitement, as well as a great nervousness. Any advice would be great! All of you RNs out there reply and help a new grad out! I thank you all for your many experiences that you will share. Thanks.
  6. I am so close to graduation and I made my first mistake where I thought a patient was going to be hurt by my mistake. Everything ended up ok, but it really shook me up as far as , Wow! I have a huge responsibility. HOw do I get my confidence back? Did any of you remember this moment in your first year? How do you move on? Does this mean Im not ready? I feel as though I have so much more to learn , but I am ready to do so on the job. What do you all think, give me indepth thoughts , I could use it now! Thanks nursing family!
  7. I was wondering if I should get my paramedic or emt certification after I complete my ASN. I know that I want to work in the ER. I think that I want to eventally be a flight nurse. What should I do, go for my paramedic /EMT, or should I just continue on to my BSN?
  8. Thank you all so much! Its very difficult at times to want to learn and continue your skills and education, but at times feel as if you dont know that much yet especially in something totally different from med surg. pace. I will take all of your advice, any other advice would be great as far as common meds, common injuries, systemic s/s to brush up on. I can not tell you all how appreciative I am of your time and effort in helping a fellow future nurse.
  9. Hello, I will be starting my ED preceptor in about a week. I have bought books on Emergency and critical care, because I have not taken those coorifices yet in the rotation and yet I will be in the ED for preceptor. What all do I need to know to make a good impression, to fully care for my patients, and to learn the best? What knowledge should I study up on prior to the first day? I have had some ( a couple of days ) ICU experience but never anything like ED, just med surg stuff. Any advice for a student who is still refining their skills and knowledge in everything? I will be there for a total of five weeks.
