I believe that a lof of nursing students had sacraficed a lot in order to go to school and become a nurse. If you really want to be a nurse, you'll have to sacrafice a few things in order to be success. You should sacrafice being a stay home mom for awhile and get a full time or part time job to support your school. I know you feel guilty about not having enough time with your son, but think about what being a nurse means for your family's future. As for me, I have 3 children ages 5 and younger. I go to school and work fulltime. I try to spend as much time as possible with them and things are going fine so far. I only have 2.5 years left for my BSN so I'm half way there. I know that I am doing something that will be a great asset to my family. Once I'm a nurse, I can provide more for my family and do not have to worry about being laid off. Nursing school is not an easy process, so if you really want to be a nurse, you'll have to do what's best for you to succeed in nursing school. Good luck!

Yeap, I'm going to Research College of Nursing in KC, MO. I'm almost done with my pre-reqs too. I will start at Research in January 09.

I heard some negative things about KCKCC's nursing program, but as far as the pre-reqs, it's a good school. I know three people that didn't pass and were kicked out of the nursing program. I am taking pre-reqs there but will go somewhere else for the nursing program.

I have the same issue too. I'm always affraid of dead body and cannot imagine being in the same room with them by myself. I always have this fear everytime going to a funeral and cannot get myself to look at the dead person sleeping in the casket. If I do look at them, I have this image of them laying in the casket in my head for weeks. I decided that no matter what I will need to overcome my fear and be strong. I hope that being a nurse will help me overcome that fear.

I'm curiouse about the hours and pay for RN. I know that most hospitals and RN jobs are 12 hrs shift 3 days a week. If you only work 12 hours 3 days a week, that's only 36 hours a week. My question is, do you only get pay for the 36 hrs that you work, or 40?

Thanks for all the comments on this post. I am kind of a shy and quite person, but I can be assertive at times. I guess I'm just afraid of being yelled at and look stupid to nurses and doctors. I know that I can develope the skills once I'm in the field and just don't worry about what people think of me.

I've told some people at work that I'm currently going to school to become a nurse. They told me that I'll be a great nurse because I'm so nice and friendly, but they also told me that most nurses they knew (some of their friends are nurses) are tough people. They said that you have to be tough and be a strong individual, take no crap from anyone, and speaks your mind. It kind of makes me nervouse about becoming a nurse because I'm not a tough person who speaks her mind. I feel bad saying things I want to say because I'm afraid of hurting other people. I'm the type of person who don't know what to said and step back in an arguement then one who talks back. My cousin and half sister are nurses and they both are very confidence people who speaks their mind and will burn you down if you argue with them. As for me, I'm the opposite. I guess I'm a soft person. Do you guys agree with them?

Wow, it's been a long time since I post here. Thanks for all the replies to this thread. I just wanted to share the good news that I'm hepititus B negative. I did many tests and they all came back negative. I'm not sure why I was positive the first time which was 4 years ago, but I recently tested and it came back negative...YEAHHH... It was weird but the doctor said that I could be the 1% of those that converted the virus. He said that out of all the people with hepititus B, only 1% of them will convert and no longer have the virus. I feel so blessed and lucky. Thank God for his Blessing.

I just applied for the fall (auguest) 2008 at a community college and won't know until April if I get in our not. I had already finished most pre-reqs and have a very good GPA, so I'm confident that I will get in. I just can't wait until April for the exceptance letter.

I am curently a student taking pre-reqs and has never cross my mind, but here is my question. Can I still be a nurse even if I'm hepititus B positive? I just now thought about it and want to ask someone but not sure who. Does anyone know?

CNA doesn't make a lot of money. ADN is another word for registered nurse which you will make a lot more money. My suggestion is if you want to become a nurse and make good money then ADN is the way to go.

Thanks for your reply. The reason I'm asking because I will be taking pre-req classes in november at NAU. I have not start the nursing program yet. I have to take some pre-req classes first. I know that their nursing program is new so I guess I won't know much about it yet. I've heard some bad things about Sanford brown's nursing program and I just didn't want it to be the same for NAU. I could attend a community college but the wait is just so long. I rather pay more to got to a private college and get in without being on a waiting list. I'm very excited about school so hopefully NAU RN program is what I expected.

How are the classes and are the credits transferable?

I'm sure it will be very stressfull but I really wanted to be a nurse. I want to be able to help people and make good money to support my family. How hard is nursing shcool? Did many of you have difficult times when you went to nursing school? What motivated you and how did you make it through?

I know this might be a stupid question but I'm just curiouse. I'm planning on going to school to become a nurse but not sure what to expect. I've heard some people said a few things about what they did in Nursing school. My question is: While you were in nursing school, did anyone of you had to work on dead bodies or see it? I heard about disecting baby pigs but not a human dead body. Please share a little of what to expect so I can be prepare for what's coming. Thanks.

I need some advise. I want to become a RN but can't decide which school to go to. I heard that Penn Valley MO is a really good nursing school but there are a lot of people who have to be on a waiting list to get into the program. I heard about National American University NAU which you could get your RN degree in 2 years, but it cost about $30k. Have anyone in here graduated from NAU and how good is the school?
