The kids can't always be depended upon to go when they are needed. I know my son does not always remember he needs to take his adderall at one every day. He has been on it for 3 years, so he should! I totally depend on his teacher to send him down! If I *ever* found out that he was denied the chance to get his meds, or she just decided not to send him to receive his medication I would be LIVID. If they are not returning your email/notes, perhaps you can go face to face with the teacher(s) in question. Maybe they don't know, maybe they do, but you deserve an answer. With regards to "well I am trying" that is BS. It is not hard to write a note in the lesson plan to send little Timmy to the nurse. They are on meds for a reason, she is tampering with his health. Personally I would try that first. If it *is* an honest mistake you will have burned a bridge by involving the principle before you face-to-faced. If it isn't, well then you can say you did all you could do for the welfare of this child when you do address the parents and or principle. Kudos to you for trying to ensure the best for these kids!

Baker is a 4 year school. It is in Topeka- but separate from the main campus. To get in there, you have to have your pre-reqs done. I am finishing mine at Cloud County in JC. You need 62 hours to get into the Nursing school. They look at your GPA, mostly your science and math scores, and then the "who are you" kind of interview. They admit twice a year and recommend applying 7 months before you wish to attend. Now, it is expensive- but that is expected from a University. It is about 11k a year- but when I spoke to them, they were VERY helpful in pointing me towards several grants and scholarships that could more than cover my education there, and many are given just because you want to become a nurse, not based on need or financial status. I did not want to wait for MATC either- and I did not want to have to pay to become a CNA just to get in when I had neither the time or use for such a thing. The way I figured it, by the time I got in, and finished MATC, I could have gone to Baker and received a BSN instead of the ADN. This was my goal. Again, please don't base your decision on Brown Mackie on what I heard- I chimed in because I had in fact heard others talking about it, but opinions are like AHoles, ya know? LOL Best of luck!

Again, this was just in a passing conversation- but one girl said that it was a joke- she received a much better education when she went to Manhattan Area Tech- she just did not feel as knowledgable from the Brown Mackie classes. Again, she could have just had one poor instructor- or preferred the teaching methods at MATC. I can't say for sure. I will be starting at Baker next year, and that decision took me a while to make- mostly because I am not willing to wait for an opening with MATC. If you are willing to wait though- MATC is extremely affordable, has a high pass rate for the NCLEX, and is a better drive over Salina.

Hey there! I have talked to a couple of LPNs in my area (Manhattan) and they were not happy about Brown Mackie. They both said on two occasions that they did not feel prepared at all after taking classes there. I have not personally visited there- so this is just second hand information.
