  1. Thanks everybody for your comments.:) It looks as if the south has the best opportunites at this point in time. It seems you may stand a better chance at landing a job if your willing to relocate to this region. I just wonder how much longer that would last, everyday you hear of more layoffs and economic catastrophe. Well all jobseekers, I wish you the best of luck!
  2. Since the economic recession, noticing many areas of the country are having hiring freezes and even laying off nurses in some areas (scary!). Wondering where are the best areas for job opportunites despite the declining economy--if there even are any areas left! Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!:)
  3. I'm on the same boat. Thinking about the future and tired and burned out from nursing. Bedside nursing definitely can be difficult most of the time but as some have suggested maybe you should try adminstrative/non-clinical positions. I'm thinking about going back to school myself. Also I have been thinking about possible career change. Really have been thinking about becoming a pharmacist. From some research it looks like they make up to $90,000 a year. Still not sure what all it entails, but I will continue to research before making any decisions. So that possibly could be an option for you. I definetly know where your coming from, but I wish you the best of luck in whatever you may decide.:wink2:
  4. If anyone could enlighten me about good hospice companies to work for, I would really appreciate input. Are there any companies out there that don't have case managers working on-call every other week, admissions (including on weekends), and cover huge geographical locations (three counties) due to being short-staffed. I am really getting burnt out and frustrated. I love working with patients, but I feel that I am losing having my own time to focus on my personal life and money isn't the best either. At this point I couldn't get a part-time/prn job even if I wanted to. I thought being in hospice would put great balance to my life, but I am starting to feel like a slave. If anyone could give me insight on what direction to take, I could really use the suggestions! Thank you.
  5. Well, I got the job!!! :rollI'm a little nervous but excited. They are telling me the caseload is 14 patients. I will receive 2-3 weeks training. Unfortunately they have on-call. It would be every third weekend. I believe she stated from Fri after 5p to Mon 7:30a. They also don't have LPN's so that's kind of a downside too. She stated mileage compensations is on the low side $0.40. MDT meeting is every other Wed. The pay is salaried so that's another bonus. I have benefits, PTO, etc. So I hope this will work out for me. Kayla123 if you have any opinions, I would really love to know what you think. Thanks again for you help!
  6. I really thank you all for you comments. I really found them helpful. I have an interview tomarrow for a position as a RN Case manager for hospice patients, so I'm hoping all goes well. I would be happy if I would be able to give the appropiate time and focus on one patient at a time without having those constraints that occur in the hospital. Thanks again for your help!
  7. I was interested in becoming a RN case manager in hospice, but I did have a few questions. -- What is a typical day like, what can I expect? -- Generally how is staffing, what roles do RN's, LPN's and CNA's take? -- What does it (really) mean to be on-call? -- Does salary compare or come close to the hospital? -- Is there a chance I would have to drive very long distances to homes? -- Any tips on safety when visiting homes/generally how safe is this setting? I know some of these questions will vary depending on each individual agency and/or location, but I would appreciate any experiences, thoughts, advice you could give. Thank you!:nuke:
  8. :idea:Hi! I have a question about Weekend Option. I am interested in a Med-Surg position offering weekend option, but I am wondering why salary is so much higher for this option. Basically i have some reservations as to why nurses would get so much extra in salary for this position. I know working every weekend for most would be a negative, but I'm wondering what to look forward to if I decide to do weekend option. If you could give me some feedback I would really appreciate it.
  9. how did you prepare your applications and resume with the job you were fired from. how did you respond about the job in the interview.
  10. Thanks so much for all the responses. I think at this point I am going to try to shadow in the PACU--maybe a few other areas as well--and get a feel of whether I'm interested or not. I cannot stay in Med-Surg for over a year, I'm already at my breaking point. I feel that I have received a lot of the experience needed for me to develop further as a nurse. At this time I will try to explore my options and decide where I would fit well. Hopefully everything will work out well and I will be happy with whatever decision I make. Thanks again!
  11. I graduated in Dec. of last year and I have been working on a gen. M/S unit for the last 6 months. My plans when I graduated were to work M/S for a year (to the advisement of my instructors in nursing school) and then move into a speciality that I would be interested in. I completely hate were I am working. We are very understaffed and overpopulated. I knew M/S was not going to be for me before I began, so the question is--should I try to stay in M/S another 6 months? I have not decided where to go once I finished my year, just because I'm not sure what type of nursing I would want to have a career in. I was interested in PACU, OR, ICU, TELE. I really can't stand any environment that is too fast paced. If anyone has any suggestions on what steps I need to make I would greatly appreiciate it.
