  1. Anyone know about Michigan Schools? I was planning on applying to MSU and no one told me there was a big wait.
  2. Please tell me- what is a day in the life of a nurse like? What sort of activities do you do everyday? I am looking to either become a nurse and then, in a few years, and NP OR to become a PA. I want to know what a day in the life of a nurse is like to help me make this decision.
  3. I have a suggestion for those of you having difficulty making friends here in the U.S. I don't know, of course, what its like to come to a different country and not know many people, but I DO have some experience with not being the most outgoing person and making friends. I would suggest if you are religious, becoming involved with a faith group. There are a lot of opportunities to make friends and connect with like minded people in religious groups. Also, if you work with lots of women or men in your demographic, invite them over just to hang out. Sometimes you have to go out on a limb and ask someone to hang out.
  4. Thank you. I wasn't sure if you were stuck in a certainly specialty, mostly because I go to a school with a big PA program and the bloody PA students keep telling me I can't switch specialties. (for the record, I have nothing against PAs...I've just heard this from quite a few PA students. :)) As an NP you cannot switch specialities, correct?
  5. I know that all nurses specialize in some area, but how does this process work? Do you pick a specialty early on in your schooling, or do you just decide when you enter the workforce? Can you switch specialization? I am just wondering. I'm not even in nursing school yet, I was thinking about PA school but then I decided I'd rather go the nursing route. I know with PAs, you can change specialties with ease, and I just wondered how this works for nursing.
  6. If you check out number 2, it says something a little bit more specific. "consumers believe that complex medical issues, surguries, procedures, and prescribing medication should be performed by medical doctors" This is the only part I object to. I don't think its necessary for PAs and NPs to perform surgery, and complex medical issues should be referred to a doctor for oversight. However, I think that NPs and PAs should be able to prescribe medication.
  7. This sorta stinks like poo. I mean, I can understand the surgery issue, but not being able to write perscriptions? I don't think thats necessary. http://www.magnetmail.net/images/cli...h/BillText.pdf
  8. I am mainly interested in becoming an NP or a Nurse Midwife, but for me, spending some time as an RN is a major part of my education towards this role- sort of like an MD/DO residency. Thats the way I am looking at the situation, anyway.
  9. I am planning on becoming an RN, getting a BSN, and then I WAS thinking of getting a master's degree in nursing so that I can practice as a nurse practitioner. Instead, should I plan on getting a doctorate in nursing? Are current doctorate nursing programs going to be adequate for the (possible) new requirements to be an NP? I am a little confused.
  10. I was also considering going on after this to get a BSN, but since my end goal is to an NP, would this be worth my time?
  11. Hi everyone, I am currently a junior enrolled at Central Michigan University and I think I want to start a career in nursing! I am planning to finish my degree at CMU and then attend Michigan State University's Accelerated Degree Program to get an RN. After that I am hoping to work for awhile, and eventually, to become an NP or perhaps a Nurse Midwife. What is your opinion on the accelerated nursing programs? I am worried that in a year I will not get an adequate nursing education, and yet I am nearly finished with my Psychology degree, so it makes the most sense to go ahead and finish that and then do the 12 month program. Could any of you check this program out and let me know what you think? I'd appreciate it very much. http://nursing.msu.edu/programs.asp Thank you in advance. :wink2:
