  1. I mean no disrespect. However, if LPN's basically due the same job as RN's but are paid considerably less, unless the decision was out of your control financial, family, etc. Why would anyone choose LPN over RN? What are the advantages to choosing LPN as a career?
  2. The class is at the community college and fully accredited. Course length is 16 weeks, Lecture is once a week for 2:50 min either on campus or online, Clinical is once a week for 8 hours at a LTC facility, and lab is once a week for 2:50 min on campus.
  3. Let me clarify, I would only be taking "lecture" online, not lab and clinical.
  4. There are skills in Lecture?
  5. I will be taking the CNA course in the Spring, consisting of Lecture, Lab, and Clinical. The classroom lecture is once a week for 2:50min. I also have the option of taking it online which I would greatly prefer. Do you think I would miss out on anything if I took lecture online? Thanks.
  6. My goal is RN. I work full time and I would like to take a CNA class along w/ A&P 1 next semester, I understand what A&P will entail. Is this doable? Aside from scheduled lecture, lab, and clinical, in general how much outside time is required for CNA studies? Thanks, Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
  7. The Fall and Summer schedules are currently posted online. Click Admissions and the link will be in Red. Sunmmer registration begins April 17th.
  8. Anyone applying to the CCSN program, I would be interested in hearing the point cut-off when you find out. Thank you and Good Luck.
  9. Kenny b, I haven't purchased one yet, I was waiting for advice on what I would need specifically to accomplish this.
  10. If I use a digital recorder to record some lectures and I then want to transfer it to a CD to listen to while driving, or to MP3 format for an Ipod. Can this be done, and how difficult would it be?
  11. DesertRain, It was nice to hear from you again. I hope everything is going well for you!
  12. Thank you Woogy. I definitely agree. Is it possible to flag a user, so you don't have to read their mean spirited comments? Aside from the occasional I usually get excellent advice on this site.
  13. I too have common sense, I do try, and I am currently a 4.0 student. Perhaps I should have elaborated re; my inquiry: Today was my first day of class with the instructor, who stated that on avg. 20% of the class will pass and most will barely do so. He stated that he will teach the class as it is meant to be, unlike other instructors who try to appease prospective nursing students. He also stated that without outside tutoring it is "Impossible for Anyone" to pass his class.
  14. Did anyone take 189(Lecture) ? Is it possible to pass this class?
  15. What type of maintenance is necessary, how often should it be done, and finally how do you know when it's time to replace? do they wear out?
  16. Is it true that you get what you pay for with a stethescope, or are they all the same? what do you use?
  17. Have you taken 223/224 at CCSN? who was your instructor? would you recommend them?
  18. DesertRain-I don't know who my 100B instructor is, it's listed as "staff," for 189 I have Joshua Parker w/ Deborah Harbour for lab. My orientation lasted a little over an hour, of course this depends on how many people ask questions. The drug testing occurs off campus, you have to pay at the CCSN cashier and then you are given a form to take to a "Quest Diagnostics" location of your choice(within 24 hours), it was a simple urine test and they will send your results to CCSN. They did have specific guidelines for your uniform, I'm sorry I don't recall the particulars for the women. You also will have to get nametags made, they will give you the format and any trophy shop should be able to do this for a few dollars. For what it's worth, my girlfriend wanted me to tell you that the most beneficial class you can take aside from CNA is HIT117B (medical terminology) she says it's surprisingly fun and you will be be way ahead of your RN classmates who didn't take it, the class is only 50 minutes once a week.
  19. I haven't taken the CNA. I registered last year, went to orientation & the next day my work schedule changed so I had to drop. I am now working towards RN, but I'm only in my second semester taking bio & math. My girlfriend is an RN( I'm male) she took the CNA at CCSN and said it was easy and definitely nothing to stress about. Did you notice CCSN changed the RN program selection criteria for spring 08? A wider point range for the NLN, more pts for bio251 & comm and doing away with previous education for selection criteria. Also, When you go to get your uniforms 'La Isla' on E. Sahara by commercial ctr. has a huge selection and the best prices. most of the RN's in town go there, when you go to orientation some nurses union will have a table set up right outside the door, stop and say hello and they will give you a coupon for 10-20% off your uniforms at La Isla ( no I don't work there) On this site, If you look under general nursing forums-general nursing discussions I recently posted the question of which class would be more beneficial CNA, Phlebotomy, or EMT. I've only received 2 responses so far both for CNA. Who did you have for 223? How hard was it? any tips? Finally, if you want to beat the rush and get your drug test done, bring $$ for the test to orientation($30 approx?) and sit down in front by the door, because when the meeting concludes if you don't beeline for the cashier you will find yourself in a line of 100 people, and the cashier station is manned by people I would not let be banker in Monopoly.
  20. I have no professional medical background, and I'm working to become an R.N., I believe that I will need an additional point for selection purposes. I will be taking this class strictly for the admission point and probably not working the job beyond certification. As such: which would be more beneficial, CNA, EMT(basic), or Phlebotomy? Thank you in advance.
  21. I am taking my RN pre-reqs at CCSN, I believe that your first clinical will be during your 3rd week, this should be covered at your mandatory meeting Jan 11th along with items you will need, uniforms, types of acceptable shoes, a watch with a second hand, stethescope etc. If you haven't done your CPR they should also have an instructor present to sign you up for the class at a reasonable cost.
  22. The RN program I am moving towards has pre-reqs of Biology, Microbiology, and 2 A&P courses (223&224). However, no Chemistry or Physics. I have been told these cannot be good programs without these classes, primarily Chemistry. Is their any truth to this? Would this hinder me? the school is CCSN in Las Vegas,Nv.- Thanks
  23. I was told a good digital recorder would be helpful for lectures, do you agree? Can anyone recommend a particular model and any tips for using same? Should I request permission to use, or would it be better not to ask?
  24. Thanks to all who responded to my query, and may you have a Merry Christmas!
  25. I posted this on the LPN site and as that didn't work, I'm hoping you can take a minute to help me. Thanks. I have decided to take the CNA-LPN-RN career path. when I look for my first CNA job, assuming I have a choice, is their any particular location I should concentrate on, LTC, Hospital etc. I'm not overly concerned with pay, I want to gain the most experience possible to better prepare myself for the next step of LPN. are their advantages to either? does the shift you work come into play as far as skills learned? I would appreciate any guidance.
