  1. does anyone have any advice or experience with taking their uniforms to a tailor/seamstress, or know how far a seamstress is able to alter an article of clothing? I was a seamstress at a dry cleaners for many years in a former life before nursing......i don't see why it couldn't be altered to fit you so that you're comfortable in it. check with local dry cleaners, they usually have a seamstress on staff. you're not asking for a complete makeover, just altered to fit. believe me, i had many more outrageous requests when i was sewing for the public!
  2. listerine........good ol' stinky original listerine.....will back a tick out faster than you would believe. just soak a cotton ball with listerine, put it on the tick for a couple of seconds, lift it off........tick out! very rarely have i had to do it twice. i always worry about pulling on them, if the head stays in, there's a risk of infection. have had to remove several times from patients in the past few years... uuuugh.
  3. Too old at 30? Absolutely not!! I got accepted into nursing school at the age of 51, and I was NOT the oldest student in the class! I've been an LPN for 3 years, loving it, and so glad I didn't talk myself out of it - thank goodness for a husband who was my biggest support. YOU have to decide what you want to do, don't let others decide that for you. And male nurses? They're great, need more of them. That rationalization is as bad as saying "you're a woman, you can't be a doctor" HUH?????? Good luck with your decision.:mnnnrsngrk:
  4. I decided at the age of 50 that it was time to grow up and decided what I wanted to be. I am now in my last year of school for LPN. You are never too old to go back to school!!! Heck, I've had instructors that were younger than my kids! Hang in there, and good for you. My husband/kids have been my greatest support in this - I'm sorry that your family is not.
