  1. THANK YOU for all the wonderful recommendations!!! Can't wait to start OB next week! I'm sure this forum will definitely be a great source of support for "the new kid on the block" (M-E). - rn_happy
  2. Hi all! Could anyone recommend a book that could serve as a resource while working in OB, specifically postpartum??? Been a nurse for over 6 years now, but 1st time in postpartum. Looked on the AWHONN, Amazon, and Barnes&Noble websites, but didn't find anything. I'm sure there are resources at work, but would like to brush up on my Maternal Child Health before 1st day of work. THANK YOU for your replies
  3. if anyone is interested, please check out this great site.....................http://www.nursesed.net
  4. 1st time and no I haven't gotten the book yet, but could you direct me to where I may??? THANK YOU so much for your help..........rn_happy
  5. Urgently seeking NRP provider course in the So CA area, near San Diego.....Anyone know of one??? Already checked various hospitals and googled it, but didn't find much except 1 course which starts in Nov (can't wait that long)..... Thank you for your time and reply.......
  6. just an update.......rather than the mother/baby unit I've accepted a position in the NICU and will be starting shortly so thank you both for replying......perhaps in the future I will get an opportunity to work mother/baby and sure do look forward to it!
  7. BluEyes, what shift would u advise....nights or days for a mum w/ youngins at home? My dh is gone from 6am-6pm so I was thinking nights? and weekend nights even better? He's a resident so still there's oncall and on his "off time" there alot of studying to do.....our schedules should be more stable when he's done w/ residency I'm sure. He's Air Force so we're military too. Your input is greatly appreciated....thank you.
  8. Thank u BluEyes for ur advice......per diem sounds good to me......
  9. Thank u both for your reply and I admire so much the beauty of being a mom.....and look forward to such a special role! Children are such blessings...
  10. maybe I'll be the next millionaire LOTTO winner and not need to work!!!:roll
  11. Thank you Blee for your reply......haven't figured out who would care for my baby while I'm sleeping during the day after working all night......I sure did not expect to ask MIL for help......I have help at night when I'm at work, but now the question is how will I get to sleep, right? Hmmmm...........
  12. For all of u mommies out there.....with children, especially when they're young what's the best work routine (nights, days, weekends, alternating days, and etc)? Hubby is a resident so he's gone on days, from 6am-6pm so just doing some planning b/c we would LOVE to be parents one day soon :1luvu:(hopefully) .....due to the HIGH cost of living here we need dual incomes for now. I was thinking of working nights (either 11pm-7am or 7p-7a) so that hubby can be with baby rather than rely on others while I'm at work (inlaws....they are great, but rather not overwhelm with this as they're already helping SIL w/ her baby). Also, maybe it's best to work alternating days b/c it looks like I won't be getting much sleep so 1 on and 1 off . I sure would appreciate all of your input and help as I value all of your own experiences. Thanks much!!!
  13. Hi everyone. Just wanted to get some info on maternity leave...my SIL just got off of maternity leave and I believe she was paid her regular salary during the entire 3 months she took off so does this sound right? Or do I have this confused with FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act)? Can someone tell me the difference b/t the two? Thank you for your help.......
  14. Hi again Nurse Pam, Happy Friday! First of all, my recruiter never told me that after working my tooshie off, 12hr night shift, that my "nurse manager" (they will give this title to a monkey in the zoo b/c that's where I felt like I have been the past 6 LONG years as a military nurse)....anyhow.....I was told, "it is a privilege for you to get to go home, not a right." I was told that I'm on call 24/7, 365 days of the year. The nurse managers (sr officers) were more concerned about the length of my hair being below my uniform collar than about patients almost dying due to negligent medical/nursing care........I could go on and on....Military healthcare is a badly broken system which I believe will never change due to the nature of the business. I'm just grateful I NEVER have to deal w/ morons like that again......as a WONDERFUL civillian nurse if I EVER feel that my license is at risk I will just put in my 2 week notice, but in the military you "sign the dotten line" and regardless of how dangerous one is the "system" will force u to fulfill the contract obligations. On a more positive note, I successfully managed to get honorably separated with my RN license safe and sound, but trust me it was NOT easy........ Thanks for listening.......
  15. Yes, of course, me being in the military did have one positive.....unexpectedly I met my beloved husband and we're living happily ever after.....yes, the experience also humbled me in more ways than I can count...I witnessed first hand the true price of freedom....sacrifice and committment..
