  1. Hello Everyone, I am a new grad and have interviewed with a Dialysis outpatient center. I am concerned about the liability issues in Dialysis. The facility where I interviewed allow PCT's to place patients on and off the machines, perform assessments, give heparin and IV fluids. My concern is that if a PCT makes a mistake for instance gives Lidocaine instead of Heparin, am I responsible? I understand my job is to oversee all patients and PCT's. However, everyone can make a mistake. I have tried looking up the laws for my state MA but could not find anything specific to what a PCT can or can not do in dialysis. Please help. I would enjoy dialysis but I don't want to spend every day worried about my license. Thanks
  2. I live in MA and would love to move to Virgina. I hear amazing things about this state. I would like to live by the water and Norfolk and Virgina Beach were suggested to me. I have never been to Virgina, have no family or friends there but would love the experience. I am trying to find out about good hospitals to work for and how close it is to water and if the area is safe. I would like to work at a hospital with a very strong orientation program. I know this is a 600 bed level 1 hosptial so I am assuming they have a strong orientation program. Does anyone have any info on the area hospitals? This hospital also offers a 2000 relocation program thanks sarah
  3. Thank you for all the positive advice.
  4. Psychaprn, An NP is a NURSE and has nursing experience. Please don't exclude an NP from having "nursing experience." I was saying it does not make sense for me to get my BSN when I will have an RN and a Bachelor's degree if NP programs accept this and they do. I am not arguing the merit on whether an NP should be a nurse in a hospital or work in for x amount of months and have a BSN and a MSN. There are other forums that have done this. "Be a real nurse with a thorough understanding..." So what is your definition of a real nurse? There are plenty of people who hold the position that a Psych nurse is not a real nurse. Do I agree? no. But I find your statement of "real nurse" appalling. I did not say I wanted to go to an easy school. Please reread. My statement was which school was the easiest to get into. There is a distinciton. My GPA from my undergraduate degree is a 2.6 from an elite college and I thought this may hurt my chances of getting into a NP school. My motivation is honest and caring. So much in fact that I want to go to this profession to help people. I Know I will make a amazing NP. I just need to get into a school and was wondering what my best route would be since my GPA from years ago at an elite college is low and if that would hurt my chances.
  5. Thanks for all the advice. I have my Bachelor's in biology and will have my RN so I really did not want to pay for a BSN because some NP schools will admit you with your RN with a Bachelor's in something else. However, if it makes me more competitive i will. I want to be a NP more than anything and am willing to do what it takes. Thanks for all the advice
  6. My goal is to become a NP. I will graduate with my ADN in May with a grade point average of 3.3/3.4. However my undergradate GPA where I recieved my BA in Biology is a 2.6. I am going to give myself at least 6 months to study for GRE's because I know some schools require them. I want to become a NP more than anything. I don't care where I have to move or relocate to. I just want to be a NP. I know this question may not be appropriate but, What NP school is the easiest school to get into or what school would I have the best chance of getting into? Thank you
  7. Okay Guys, that time of year has come again. What are your new year's resolution and did you keep your resolution from last year? I'll start: To spend more time with friends and family
  8. I believe this topic is state dependent. From the research, I found that you do not have the duty to act buy the duty to report (ie. calling the police). As a nurse, I would be very leary to render services if i drove by and saw a car accident. I say this because I read a story and I can't find it now about a nurse who helped at the scene of a car accident and moved a person away from their car because she felt the car would start on fire to the smell of gas. To make a long story short she was being sued because the lawyer felt that by moving the individual she caused further damage leaving him paralzed. I am not arguing the merits of this case or whether I argee or not. I am torn, I would want someone to help someone I love but I do not want to put myself in a law suit. I know the law is suppose to protect you but we all know that the judical system does not always do what it should do.
  9. Thank you so much for you guys... I think I get it and then I realize I don't. However, I am much further along than I was and I feel like I have a good grasp on it. Thanks for everyone's help.
  10. Thank you guys! I never had this happen before and I wasn't sure what I did was right. I did not place blame or name individuals in the chart, did an incident report, called md- which ordered labs, I just did'nt know if there was more i should do.
  11. Let's say during your shift you find that the wrong IV bag was hanged 3/4 hours into your shift. It is potassium the IV fluid ordered was NS. You are at fault for missing it during your inital assessment and the previous nurse was at fault for hanging it. Yes, you can do an incident report but can you do someone else to cover your butt. Can you document in the chart what happened since potassium in this client can have negative consequences. The incident report is just for the hospital and really isn't much to this hospital.
  12. Acute pain r/t altered comfort s/t vascular surgery e/b patient's statement of 10/10 pain. Techincally speaking, meaning according to NANDA how many parts should a nursing diagnosis have?? 3 and which ones? In my above nursing diagnosis is pain and altered comfort both a nursing diagnosis?? Why do some schools use e/b and m/b or other terms if it is not a true nursing nanda diagnosis??? Confused...
  13. Hello everyone, I am a in my early twenties and looking to move to NC. I live in MA and I am looking to stay as close to MA but move to a warmer area. I am looking to live near the coastal waters/beaches in a nice, safe area. Any ideas? Thanks
  14. wow! thank you for taking the time and energy to help me. my patient is overweight due to the stressors she states she has in her life. these include trying to balace a professional, family and school commitments. i choose ineffective health maintenance related to increased food consumption in response to stressors and insufficient energy expenditure for intake. i can understand however that her stress is a result not a cause of her being overweight. i do think ineffective coping would have been a better diagnosis though. thank you
  15. Thanks for the help. I ended up using altered health maintence
