  1. Lots of thoughts and experiences to think about and consider! Very helpful. thank you!
  2. thank you very much for your input!
  3. I am considering working as an OR travel nurse, but am concerned about having to "start over" with every new assignment- - that is learning how this facility and it's team of surgeons do thing, where supplies are kept, who to call for what, etc. Is this a real problem for travel OR circulators? Thank you for your input
  4. As a male nurse: waist band with belt loops, zipper fly, lots of leg pockets sewn on at a slight angle so things do not slide out when you sit, also these leg pockets should be a little more toward the front of the leg than right on the side, so when you are in a "squatting" position while caring for a patient, the items in the pockets are not caught between the bends in your legs. Thank you for asking!
  5. I graduated from nursing shcool a little less than 2 years ago (RN). Have worked on a neuro floor since. Am considering a move to OR as circulating nurse. I would like to hear some pros and cons about this position. I have been told it may be a LOT to learn for someone my age (53). Do you think it would be a fairly safe bet that if I passed nursing school recently that I could learn this? Any input appreciated!
  6. Dont give up on this profession yet. I am not terribly happy where I am now, and plan to go elsewhere in a few months. But there are too many avenues you can go in this field to not investigate some that you haven't tried yet.
  7. I want to thank everyone who took the time to read and especially those who posted a reply to my thread. LOTS of good advise to think on!
  8. I have been an RN for about 4 months and have worked on a med-surg floor those months. I had a great preceptor, but I am concerned that I am just not multi-task- oriented enough to handle the stress, and hectic pace of this environment. Does anyone have any suggestions on another area I might pursue? (I have considered something in surgery). Or should I give the med-surg experience more time?
  9. Let (s)he who is without sin (mistakes) cast the first stone!! Thank you for your reminder to "be careful". In my opinion, when a nurse makes a mistake (s)he needs a hug, and if open to it, suggestions on how that mistake might be prevented in the future.
  10. I am a new RN. I have been on the floor about 3 months. My plans were to work about a year at my current position and then do some travel nursing. But I have decided that I am NOT cut out for "general" floor nursing. The pace is just too hectic for me. So my question is: For travel nurses, are there positions readily available for areas like peri-surgical, or operating room nurse? And are travel nurses able to specify the area in which they will work; again like peri-surgical or operating room? If the answer to the above questions is "yes: I want to try to transfer to one of those areas where I am now in order to get the experience in those areas. Thank you in advance for responding!
