  1. For those of you who applied to the Birmingham component, we were told this week in class that they would be sending out letters the end of this week...so start looking early next week! In our case, a thick packet was a yes and I heard a no was a thin envelope. Good luck to everyone.
  2. Ah, yes PICU, but all is well with the world and tomorrow night we will let everyone know it!!! Does it surprise you that I am up at this time??? And yes, may the force be with us tomorrow come 3 PM:) However, the OP is correct. I was lucky enough to not be on prob, but there are many who are and it has been a challenge! They were not joking about anatomy... Although med-phys is a 5 hr course I didn't think it was too bad; however, pharmacology--not so fun!! And then there are the ever so popular professional aspects and biochem classes...It is definitely doable and I am glad they decided to move anatomy to the first semester--will make coming back after the holidays much better!! Do try and make the cut off for the GRE/MAT if at all possible--you will be in a much happier place!!
  3. Fronkey Bean, To answer for EndRush (hope he won't mind, but we have a pharm test on Monday so he may not pop on here too much over the weekend) he is in the '07 class at UAB along with myself. I have not heard anything about how they will send out letters/do interviews this year. Our deadline last year was 10/1 and I think most of us heard whether or not we had been accepted for an interview by the end of Oct/early Nov. Interviews were held mid-November and we knew by Thanksgiving if we were in. Interviews at UAB are VERY low stress--I think they mainly want to know if your personality will fit in with the program. I did not interview anywhere else as UAB was my first choice and I heard back from them first. I know EndRush interviewed at Ehrlanger (sp?) and said it was a much different experience (and I don't mean in a good way...). Good luck to you! It is a lot of work (we are not even 1/2 way through the first semester and it seems like we have been here a year) but it is workable. I am a single mom with a 4 year old and no family in the area and so far I have managed to do just fine:)
  4. Has anyone been able to find any private loans recently that go above the cost of attendance? Have checked SallieMae, Wells Fargo, SunTrust, BancOne and all the private loans I have found only will allow you to take out money up to the COA. Isn't that what the GradPLUS loan is for? I need $ above and beyond the COA--single mom with other bills to pay. I am looking for private loans, that disburse directly to me, and are not dependent on the COA. If anyone has any info that would help, please let me know!!!
  5. Looking forward to meeting y'all next August! Got my letter today:roll
  6. Gatormac--thanks for the info! I had my interview yesterday, and I feel like it went fairly well. It was very laid back and I definitely felt at ease. It is hard to imagine that everyone wouldn't have had a similar experience! Oh well--they were to make their decisions today and send out letters Monday or Tuesday. Nothing to do now, but wait!!
  7. Sandman-- I sent you a PM. Gatormac, thank you for your assessment of the UAB program. I am hopeful that the interview process will be the same as last year as the timing has changed (hopefully the only thing that has changed!!). Do you know how many students they usually accept each year, and how many they usually interview? Just curious.
  8. I have an interview on 11/15 with UAB. Does anyone have any tips/suggestions? This is my first interview so I am not quite sure what to expect. Also, did you bring anything with you to the interview (ie., CV, etc.). Once the interview process was over, approximately how long did it take them to notify you whether you have been accepted? I can only imagine how excruciating that wait will be!! I have also applied to Mercer, MCG, and MUSC, but I haven't heard anything yet as their application deadlines were much later. My top two choices are UAB and Mercer (for various reasons). For those of you that are enrolled at UAB, are you happy with your choice of school? Also, once clinicals start, are they done in the Birmingham metro area, or is there alot of travel required. Thanks in advance for any info!!
  9. Congrats! I received my letter from them yesterday, and I too am ecstatic!! If anyone has any insights/recommendations, I would love to hear them as this will be my first interview! Good luck to you on your interview!
  10. I would like to know how universities normally notify applicants of requests for interview. For those of you who have had interviews in the past, were you notified by telephone, mail, e-mail, or combination. Just curious. Thanks. If anyone knows anything specifically about UAB, if you would please reply.
  11. I take my GREs on Tuesday!! I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about which area I should concentrate on in my final hours of studying. I am guessing the schools look at the quantitative scores more heavily than the verbal, but I am not sure. In addition, how much emphasis do they put on the analytical writing section? I have been taking a lot of practice exams and have an estimate of what my scores will be. However, I don't know how closely the practice exams parallel the real GRE since they don't modify the difficulty of questions given based on how you have answered the previous questions. Does anyone have any experience with how their practice exam scores compared with their actual GRE scores? Thanks in advance!!!
  12. I am currently applying to CRNA programs to start in 8/07. I will need to purchase a laptop computer (not only for school, but for personal use as well). I have started doing some research online and have some general ideas of what I am looking for, but I was wondering if anyone has any information that would be useful. For instance, what specs do most schools require. Also, does anyone out there have a laptop that they are happy with? Since technology changes frequently I will probably wait until December to purchase, but I wanted to research fully before then so I am not making a rash decision. From what I have read online it seems that Dell has some strong followers (and those that do not like them at all!). I also have read some good things about the Lenovo Thinkpads (previously IBM). Any thoughts/words of wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks!!
  13. If anyone has heard anything about these two schools please let me know! Thanks in advance.
  14. I am planning on applying to the following schools--UAB (University of Alabama/Birmingham), MCG (Medical College of Georgia/Augusta), Mercer (Macon, GA), MUSC (Charleston, SC), and UNCC (Charlotte, NC). Any information regarding the above schools (not info I can find on their websites, ie. prereqs, application process, but review of their programs) would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!
