  1. Hey guys, I finally got the answer. He had to wait until everyone turned in their papers to give us the answer. It is 34,179. 11,390 x 3 and then + 9 for the stop codon in each step in protein synthesis. I was close (34,173). I only counted 1 stop codon and forgot the other 2.
  2. Thanks guys! We didn't learn anything in this subject (we just got done with aerobes and anaerobes) so nobody knows how to do it. It was due today, but since none of us know how to go about trying to figure it out he's giving us until Monday. I'm still lost lol. It's not that you guys weren't helpful, but I don't even know what this whole topic or anything is.
  3. My professor gave us a bonus question and I have no idea how to go about answering it. He said to research for the answer, but I don't even know where to look or what topic it is. We didn't learn anything close to this type of question. We just finished anaerobes and aerobes. It's due on Wednesday so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! How many nucleotides are required to synthesize a protein that has 11,390 amino acids? The only hint he gave us is that it's not a lot.
  4. Sorry it took me a while to come back and thank everyone. I really appreciate the responses. I'm going to try to stick it out as best as I can. What gives me hope is that I just got back my 3rd micro lab test and I got my 3rd A. I don't know why he makes lecture so difficult. If you didn't get an A, you got a C or failed. No B's. All of the A's are LPN's and they said it was easy because they are used to hearing about patients. I wish he would give practice questions like that instead of throwing us off with half the test being like that. His pretest was nothing like the exam. However, he does give mini true and false questions in lecture which I get A's on. It should help my grade. All of these stories are inspiring. Thank you so much everyone!! Funny thing happened the day after I posted this. I opened a fortune cookie and it said: "you may be looking for a different career path, but don't take action".
  5. I'm in the process of doing pre-reqs for nursing and I've always wanted to do it. Microbiology is making me feel so discouraged and my heart isn't in it anymore. I know I've always wanted to work with children (pediatric nurse), but now I'm thinking elementary school teacher. I'm so bummed right now, but maybe nursing just isn't for me. I study all the time and understand every concept and in labs I get A's on the tests. I got my first lecture test back today and I got a C. The test wasn't on the handout he told us to study, but on hypothetical questions about patients. He never gave us sample questions like that, but he said nursing school is like that. Not everything you study will be asked and stuff you don't know will be asked. If that's how it is I don't think I want to do it.
  6. Hello Renee, Thanks for responding! That is my big concern also. I have a 3.19 GPA (I go to BCC) and I'm worried that will prevent me from getting accepted anywhere. Have you applied anywhere else? I have not applied yet because I will be finishing the pre-req's in the Fall and then apply in January for the next fall. My back up will be FAU.
  7. I will be applying there as well. I would also like to know how hard it is to get into.
  8. I'm at about half of what you described. It's terrible, but now that I barely sleep my grades are awesome. My friends don't try to ask if I want to hang out anymore. I hung out with my best friend today (I've barely really had deep conversation with her for 3 months) and I feel bad that I've missed out on so much. I've actually gained 4 pounds because when I get stressed I pig out. And I have a few other bad habits you listed. Luckily my classes are almost over (until summer anyway).
  9. I will join in! I have 35-40 pounds to lose.
  10. Thanks guys! I'm still kinda lost though and my test is on Thursday lol. It's in the packet of notes, but neither professor explained it. They just said trace the blood from here to here. That's it. Ugh! Nobody else seems to have it down either so we all are stressed. The book just shows pictures of the vessels, but when I think I've got it I look on the notes and there's 26 blank spaces from one region to another. Mine are all blank because I don't see how it needs 26 places to go. I get to like 9 or 10. Thanks anyway. :)
  11. For my classes (A&P II lecture and lab) we learning about blood vessels. For my test this coming week I need to be able to trace drops of blood through the body. The heart was easy for me, but I'm not getting this. For example it says: Trace a drop of blood from the liver to the cephalic region. It starts with hepatic vein, inferior vena cava, heart, pulmonary trunk, etc. We have to finish it, but I get so lost. There are 6 problems like this asking to go from an organ to a specific region and I don't even know where to being. Any tips on how to complete problems like this? Any useful sites? I have been looking for a site on this, but can't find any. Thanks soooo much! Any help is appreciated.
  12. I start A&P 2 tomorrow. I'm taking it on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
  13. I love that site. It's very helpful. I always look on that site when choosing a class. When registering for a class online I always have 2 windows open and look at both to choose the best professor for me.
  14. Thanks guys. I haven't applied yet, but I'm thinking about transferring schools. He won't tell me why he gave me a C when adding up points I had a B+.
  15. Thank you so much for your response. In my other pre-reqs I got a B in English and 2 C's (a&p 1 lecture and lab). The biggest mistake ever was taking those in the summer. I was new to college and my advisor failed to tell me going during the summer was taking a class that normally takes 18 weeks in 6. We are not allowed to repeat courses. Only if we fail so if we get C's or D's they stay with us. I'm taking A&P 2 starting in January and I know I can get A's, but the C's are dragging me down. My A&P 1 professor even told me if I hadn't taken it during the summer I would have gotten an A. He saw how hard I was working. I really hope my chem professor explains how I got a C (if I really deserved it) or hopefully he fixes it if it is wrong.
