PO liquid potassium vs. PO tablet potassium??
Someone told me the potassium PO tablet form was for maintenance of serum potassium, while the potassium PO liquid form is for repletion. Therefore, if the pt's serum potassium is low, the PO liquid form should be ordered, and not the PO tablet form. Is there any truth to that? I can't find anything about this statement on the internet. Any answers would be much appreciated!

Accepted Columbia ETP applicants (and current students: some advice). get-together?
I'm having trouble identifying the names of the professors, titles of the courses, course control numbers, and which email is from which class. It's all confusing...anyone experiencing the same problem? Pharmacology was sooo long. They talked so fast to get through all the slides, and nothing really went in my head.

hey t-rock, amy contacted me two days ago and told me that the letter of intent to graduate form i requested will suffice. however, i will be on "dean hold" until i submit my official transcript with my ba degree noted on it. everything is going smoothly now. as for your transcript, did you request a "rush transcript"? usually (at least at my school) it takes a week just to process the transcript and plus a few more days to send it over to ny. when did you send your transcript? also amy told me that the mail at columbia's school of nursing is really disorganized. she told me not to send in anything; just bring them in during the orientation so that you can register for classes. hope this helps! sherlee

Accepted Columbia ETP applicants (and current students: some advice). get-together?
I'm in serious trouble. I'm graduating from U.C. Berkeley and I can't get any kind of proof that I'll be getting my bachelor's until June 7th (when grades are posted). But the ETP program requires that I get them in by May 30th!! Columbia can't admit me if I don't have official documentation saying that I have my bachelors degree. Is anyone graduating as an undergrad thie semester and immediately matriculating into the ETP program like me??? Is anyone experiencing the same problem as I am? I've graduated, successfully passed all my courses, rented a place in NY, and I'm all set to flying over to Columbia. I've spent so much time and money on this, and if I can't enter the program just because I can't get the official documentation on paper on time, I'd be SO pissed off. I talked to Amy Greenstein on the phone and I'm expecting for a reply tomorrow. I'm just so frustrated and scared right now...

OoOoh, i'm so excited too!! I already found an apt 2 blocks from the medical center. craigslist rocks! does anyone know when our first bill from columbia arrives? I'm getting loans too, but I'm also paying a big chunk of it myself, so I need to do some preparation...Are they going to bill us in certain installments (like by month), or do we pay the whole chunk of money for the entire semester at one time?

Accepted Columbia ETP applicants (and current students: some advice). get-together?
I have the same question. But isn't fafsa due March 2nd? So I'm guessing we won't know about our financial aide package until much afterwards. Columbia will tell us about financial aide and costs on Visiting Day if you go. I've been trying to estimate how much tuition would cost. The problem is: I don't know approximately how many units of clinical courses do we need to take for the MS portion. Anyone have a clue? (I'm accepted in the FNP program)

Accepted Columbia ETP applicants (and current students: some advice). get-together?
Hi, I'm a newly accepted Columbia ETP student on the FNP track. I'm trying to estimate how much tuition would cost for the prelicensure part, and then for the specialty part. I realize it's $991/unit for regular courses, and $1258/unit for clinical courses. For full-time students, it's 12 units/semester without clinical courses, and 9 units/semester with clinical courses. But how many clinical courses do we take during the prelicensure portion? and for the specialty portion? I tend to look at things in details. The problem is, I can't find a sample course schedule for ETP students on the Columbia website. It's hard to figure out how many units we take per semester, and what type of courses we'll be taking. Anyone know where I can find a sample schedule? anyone willing to share theirs? Thanks!

what are my chances of getting in accelerated program for MSN?
I've been volunteering at clinics and hospitals since my freshmen year in college. I tutored kids in math and english, and for a mentally disabled girl for several years. I studied abroad in Hong Kong for one semester, and I'm starting a job soon as a personal care attendant for a disabled woman. thanks for replying.

what are my chances of getting in accelerated program for MSN?
hi, I'm a newbie here, and I'll be applying to an accelerated Master's in Family Nursing program (for applicants with Non-nursing bachelor's) in the next couple of months. I have about 12 schools on my list, most of them on the east or west coast. My major is Molecular and Cell Biology, and I'll be getting my BA at UC Berkeley. I have a 3.3 GPA and my GRE scores are 420 in verbal and 700 in math. I think I'll be retaking the GRE for a better score. I'm feeling a bit uneasy with applications. If anyone got into any of these schools, can you tell me your GPA (if you don't mind) and GRE scores when you applied? UCSF Boston College University of Washington Yale University Columbia University Seattle University University of Mass. - Worcestor Univeristy of San Diego University of Rochester Samuel Merritt College Johns Hopkins University University of Pennsylvania Thanks in advance.
