  1. Thanks for the info, Mveldma3... does the hospital list seasonal employment directly or do you have to go through a travel agency? Housing is through the hospital as well? Sounds like an awesome deal- working on the CO license now. So exciting!

I am from NY and would like to travel to CA on an assignment. My car is ancient and probably couldn't make it cross-country. I was thinking about renting, but it's about $2,300 for 3 months. NOt sure if it's worth it. Is the only option to find an assignment in a city with public transportation? It seems so limiting!
  3. wow! Unbelievable! Do you know if American Mobile has a similar number of subsidiaries?

I'm a med-surg nurse and I'm having trouble finding jobs ANYWHERE! I was looking for an assignment in Raleigh, NC or San Francisco, CA. I've been looking on a few companies' websites, and it seems that most major cities do not have general MS assignments. Frustrating!! Any suggestions?!
  5. I am currently in my first assignment with Cross Country and it's going well. I signed up with two other companies- medstaff and nova pro- and apparently they are subsidies of Cross Country. I was told that they basically have the same assignments! What other companies do they own? I want to avoid having 3 recruiters calling me about the same jobs.
  6. Yeah, that's true... my recruiter seemed a little clueless - I don't think she's a nurse. I'll def send my file to the hospital and they can look at the checklist and decide. Thanks for the input!
  7. Thanks for your input. I really appreciate it. I think I wouldn't feel that comfortable with cardiac, but I'm not even sure what something like a transplant entails. Obviously with trauma we get alot of chest tubes and trachs - would that be okay experience for a pulmonary floor? I have absolutely no idea. Is it okay to have the recruiter send my file over and leave it up to the hiring body to talk to me about expectations and skills? ~Lynne~
  8. Hi there! I am new to travel nursing and I cannot figure out what types of floors I should be open to working on. I have 2 years experience on an orthopedic and trauma med-surg floor. We see mostly trauma patients ranging from car accidents, falls, gun shot wounds, you name it! I have experience with a wide range of injuries and am familiar with chest tubes, IR drains, JP drains, tube feedings, general med-surg tele, trachs, among other things... I'm thinking I should be open to working on just about any med-surg floor aside from possibly cardiac and oncology. Would a transplant or pulmonary floor be over my head? At the risk of sounding conceited, I am a fairly intelligent person and I have no problems asking questions if I am unsure of something. I usually catch on to things very quickly, as well - and I'm uptight enough that I'll definitely be reading and brushing up on the care of the specific patient population with which I'll be working. Phew! Can you tell I"m stressed? Any suggestions? ~Lynne~
  9. Hey Brooke, I actually work in Philly as we speak at HUP. I love it there, though med-surg is kinda boring. The hospital is just a great place to work with amazing experiences. I didn't know anyone in philly when I moved here so I was starting at zero and my closest family/friends live 2.5 hours away. It can be a hard place to meet people unless you luck out and have some cool people on your unit. I'd recommend Philly if you're interested. Def come and check it out as a traveler before committing to anything full time. It might be easier for you since you're from not too far away. ~L~
  10. I'm a surgical RN with one years experience. I work on a trauma/ortho floor and honestly, I'm sort of bored. I love nursing but I feel that the learning curve has flattened for awhile now. I love learning and having new experiences, so I"m trying to decide where to go from here. I am considering traveling nursing next July as Philadelphia, isn't my favorite place in the world, but I don't feel that I want to "move" to another place and possibly be in the same (boring) situation. What's it like for a relatively social person to travel alone? I thought I might find jobs near several friends I have scattered throughout the country. Also, I have three main goals as a nurse: (1) travel nursing (2) ICU or ED experience (or both!) (3) getting my grad degree - FNP or forensics Should I travel before/after/in the middle of those goals? SUGGESTIONS GRATEFULLY ACCEPTED!! L in PA
  11. CONGRATS TO BOTH OF YOU!!!!!!!!! how do you know you passed?!?!?! and lam82grl... are you from PA? When did you take it? I'm so super excited for ya'll! ~Lynne
  12. How do you know if you failed, though? Do they post that? Or, do you have to wait for the letter in 30 days?
  13. Hi there, Thanks for responding to my post - I'm adding my tid-bit to yours (took NCLEX on 8/9): I totally know how you feel! Actually, at question 24 I seriously wanted to just start crying and get up and walk out of the exam... I felt like I was getting every single one wrong. I've found consolation in a few things: (1) My temporary permit license is still listed on the website (2) There was only 1 August appointment left for all of the New York City, Maryland, DE, and Philadelphia area test centers when I signed up... so PA BON is probably pretty booked (3) What bureaucratic system is ever timely in getting results back - especially in the summer vacation months? (4) Most everyone on this website thought they failed... Hopefull 1-4 adds up to both of us passing and finding out SOON! GOOD LUCK! Let me know when you find out :) ~Lynne~
  14. quick question... did they get angry if you call the next day? Pearson gave me info saying not to call...
