doucumentation?
Hi. I have worked for a major rehab hospital for 15 years. Yes same company. have seen lots of people come and go and changes through the years. I am an LVN. I have never in all my years of nursing ever had a pt. complaint. I do have the DON from hell though. My hospital quit have respiratory therapist to work at night and so the breathing tx were handed off to nursing. The Rn's were doing them then we went to primary care so everyone did there own pt. We were never trained for it and we never knew for a while there was a book to write the tx down in. One of the RT's told us one day. Well making a long story a litttle shorter - I had a tx due at 2am and at that time I had one pt down the hall throwing up and two jumping up out of bed to go to the bathroom. This took the help a the one aid we had and the RN went down to the lady throwing up. After everyone was safely in bed I went an did the tx. The man was mad it was late and wanted to know where respiratory was at. I explained they were not here at night but I did bring his tx and ask was he ok or short of breath. He said no he was ok nut though his tx should be on time. I said I was sorry and gave th tx and signed it off in the book. The DON from hell called to ask why he didn't get his tx. and I told her he did. Now within a weeks time this has been blown up and I am on the verge of being fired for false doucumentation since the book said the tx was given at 2am. What can I do I appreciate any thoughts about this. Sharon

Hey, Managers! What's up with the "weeding out" of good nurses?
Worked for a co. for 10 years that was just like this and saw many people hurt and fired over stupid write ups. I could see my time time coming so I transfered to another facility in Dallas about 3 years ago and I have to say they are not at all like that. They don't have time for those little games. The only change I have seen them make in that direction was to get rid of agency and hire more prn's and part-time nurses. I am glad I was able to leave the other job and I feel much more secure in this facility. Many places are like that but not all so try to leave the one you are at as soon as possible and find a place that will appreciate a good nurse.

CNA's: allowed to do _WHAT_ by law?
CNA's draw blood where I work in Plano also if they want to be trained. As for what to do at night - I worked 7p to 7a for 12 years and there is plenty to keep you busy. They really don't all sleep all night. Also it is shorter staffed for nights.:)

The Baylor Plan?
I have worked double weekends plus 8 hrs. on Mon. for 4 years now and love my days off, but I would not have done it back when my kids were home and in school. I am 52 and a good night sleep on Mon. is all I need to recover.

texas LVN
I have another question for you. We seem to be expected to do alot of RN work where I am, and the RN will sign behind us. This includes inital assessments and admissions. Some tell me this is OK and others not. I think I am not the one getting paid to do this - they are - and just push the work off on us. I can do the work and I can do it well but lately it seems I am ask to do more and more of their work plus take care of my 8 to 10 patients I am assigned. What to do?

texas LVN
I have been a nurse for 15 years and had background checks and drug test at every job I have worked at and have worked full time the entire 15 years. While I don't have anything to worry about I am just wondering why Texas is doing this and no other states are.

texas LVN
Hi everyone! How much does anyone know about the nurses getting fingerprinted and background checks in texas. Wasn't this all done when we graduated? Seems like a waste of time and money to do it again. Any thoughts?
