  1. hi everyone. would you believe that this is the picture of govt. hospitals here in the Philippines? nurses are no longer seen caring but documenting! more hours spent on transcribing mds orders than bedside care! nurses as they say in these places get jaded. there is no such thing as tx communication. patience is a very rare commodity. staff nurses are impatient. hot headed towards mds., patents, sos, expecially to student nurses. when i was a student and saw an ideal staff nurse,(by ideal i mean someone who cared and departed even for a short while from the charts/kardex) it was a miracle. but then again, can you blame them? when you have 80-100 pt in your ward and only 2 auxiliaries with you? and the 80 by they way is a light load already...but i salute them for choosing to serve our indigents. it is really not an easy task, that's why they say nursing is a vocation.
  2. Hi and good day to you. This may be a very late reply but I have stumbled upon this on the net. I am an RN from Cebu and I also have a pending EB3 petition filed in Nebraska. I have known some to leave the country through a working visa but probably not an h1b but I'm guessing it's an h1c. From what I understand, you don't have to be a specialist nurse to qualify for this. My petitioner is a rehab center in San Jose. We were asking them about this option but I did not quite understood their response. It states here that the petitioner must necessarily be a hospital. SO I guess that explains it. The hospital also need some prerequisites to make them eligible to apply for these visas. Nurse visa or the H1C visa is a temporary nonimmigrant visa which enables foreign nationals to enter the US for performing services in the health sector as registered nurses (RN). How to Apply For H1C visa: An American employer hospital should file a petition for you under H1C visa category. The petitioner should necessarily be a hospital. On approval of the same you should make an application for H1C visa in the US embassy or consulate in your resident country. If you are in the US the application should be submitted to the USCIS field office. Eligibility For H1C visa: To apply for a H1C visa you should satisfy the following conditions: Obtain proper license to practice nursing in the country where nursing education has been obtained. Pass the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing School (CGFNS) certification program as required. Be eligible by complying with licensure requirement at the place of employment. The employer hospital under which you are required to work should satisfy some of the eligibility requirements to make petition for you under H1C visa. for more information pls visit the website http://www.altiusdirectory.com/Society/h1c-visa.html I hope this will help you as this has really enlighten me. God Bless and good day.
  3. i also agree with leslie. i am from the philippines and we still do the white uniform. in certain hospitals though, some have adopted the scrub suit uniform type for special areas.like orange top with the hospital logo, embroidered with (Nursing Service-ICU) paired with white pants for ICU, or blue for mon-wed-fri then green for t-th-s..but still all white for floor nurses with caps! and get this in govt hospitals the skirt and white stockings and all! can you imagine the painstaking washing we have to do during the monsoon season, not to mention that less sunshine equals undried/not so dry uniform(not all of us can afford washing machines need i say dryer?) the funny part is actually, with the scrub suit type, a dozen of times Nurses are mistaken as SPA WORKERS..because of the blossoming business of wellness and spa centers whose got uniforms identical to that of ours. their uniforms also have logos by the way..but from afar you'd hardly read Perpetual Succour Hospital with Ruiz Derma and Spa..
  4. sorry this happened to you, but expect lots to come..and overtime you will get so used to it, you become numb with whatever they have to say..i am in practice for less than 2 yrs and when i was i a bit new i was so melodramatic..now i think i got skin thicker than a komodo's... i do believe there are only a handful of doctors who are really humane and not self-absorbed..and who do treat nurses as equals. and every time i meet one, i am always grateful to God for such beings..
  5. i actually said this one time to the senior OB resident.she was looking for the patient's chart, when more than half the time she was the one using it, monitoring the mother's contractions. only to rudely ask me later where it was, because she needs it, to update their consultant-on-call via phone. i told her i don't know since i am no longer on duty and still she insisted that i should hand it to her otherwise she would not be able to update, she''ll be reprimanded and all because of nurses not knowing where their patient's charts are! only to find out about 15 minutes later that it was inside the doctor's lounge! i was not gonna let her get away with everything she just said. i was about to leave when the other resident called out, it's here, it's here! must have brought it inside. i told her "so after all, i was not the LAST to touch the chart?" she said what? i answered," i said the chart was inside your lounge, SO i was not the last person to touch the chart! she went mad and threatened to call the supervisor..i said you can call her all you want, would you like me to dial her for you? and walk away...after that we passed a letter of complaint formally to the hospital administrator for her ill behavior..the incident was merely the icing on top of the cake.. i even had her co residents signed the letter.her attention was called up and now she's a bit kinder to everybody... oh and i also would like to tell them this.. scene: mother in labor, not allowed to go the comfort room, asks to pee MD: ma'am..she want to pee (bedpan is under the bed) ME: then give her a the bedpan! are you legally blind or what? scene: still in the labor room, lots of stat orders, phone ringing, mothers needing assistance. MD1: ma'am did you infuse the 8 units synto already? ME:getting bedpan for mother..not yet doc..in a while MD2: have you done the skin test already? MD3: how about mrs so and so's cbs? what time was it taken and how much?did you refer it to the IM resident? what did he say? MD1: what is mrs so and so's BP? (BP app beside her!) ME: from the bedpan, answers the phone, opens the door, another pt comes in MD 1,2,3,4: how come yuo're so slow, i've ordered this like 5 minutes ago.. ME: you tell the Sisters (runs the hospital) to hire nurses with tentacles, that way every single order you write will be carried away!
  6. i am a a graduate nurse and i'd like to disgaree with the last part...on the contrary;) , i think most graduate nurses would find this funny, because in a way it is true...i am from the other side of the globe and it seems that nurses here have somewhat similiar shall i say traits like you guys have...
  7. good day to all. i am new here at allnurses and i am hoping that you guys can help me answer a lot of my questions. as you can see i am from the philippines and i recently passed the nclex and language exam or shall i say, some of the essential requirements that is needed of a foreign nurse to be able to work legally in the us. i have intentions of working somewhere around the bay area and i was wondering if some of you can tell me what the rates are in there. considering that by the time i'd be hopefully there i only have 2-3 yrs hospital experience. i would like to know these things and more since it would be of great aid in helping me choose the possible agency that i sign up with and would really enlighten me as to the know how's of how things really are in there. your response regarding this matter will be highly appreciated and thank you in advance..god bless to all..
