  1. I want to start an elder nail care business. Any suggestions? I don't want anyone to think I am practicing medicine I am not of course. I am an RN with lots of experience in home care and Long term care. I know that this service is really needed in our community. I also know that nail clinics are connected to other health care entities, like podiatrist. Please any advice or help would be appreciated. tinkle
  2. We use a tape recorder and do not go over the same things all of the time. Only on new residents. We do go over new issues. If a nurse is coming back from a day off we are encouraged to read the 24 hour report. We are also encouraged to give report on the tape recorder with the 24 hour report in front of us as we are supposed to document on it through out the shift. tinkle
  3. Yes it is one of the busiest units. I will take your suggestion to the manager in charge. This RN is a good worker and is good with the residents and aides. I don't think she meant to do anything wrong or to omit anything. I think sometimes when its busy they sign for things at the end of the shift and make mistakes when this happens. Thanks for your suggestion. tinkle
  4. I agree that some residents r/t their disease process cannot process that even though they walked their entire life upto now without falling that they cannot do it anymore, safely. I also agree that some restraints could be used for safety. But the states and federal system had to institute some kind of guideline to keep residents from being restrained unnecessarily. And it did start years ago when the states were pressured to keep residents safe. However, I think it is way out of proportion now, and it is hard to keep them safe. You can careplan and document with the ID team and get restraints with in reason for specific residents but it has to be documented with a full assessment and justification and a Drs. order. Restraints are a big F-tag if not documented appropriately and used justly. Most managers just donot want to take the risk. tinkle
  5. The RN was not new to LTC and had worked in this facility before. She new the cart but I am not sure why this happened. I am a manager on another unit and heard the other managers talking about it. I was just curious what you all would say. Thank you for your comment and suggestions. I will relay this to the other managers. tinkle
  6. Suebird, our nurses donot do the nail care with the residents. But I do think our community could use someone to do them. Our podiatrist is not very helpful to us. I was not advocating for them to do them just wondering is anyone had experience doing them outside of LTC.
  7. I am thinking of starting nail care in our community as I think it is really needed. I know our podiatrist charges $50.00 and does a terrible job. Then will tell the nurses that they could do this and he doesn't know why he comes in. Some of these nails are very thick and the nurses really cannot do them. Do any of you have any suggestions? Tinkle
  8. Does anyone have an answer for me? I have a new RN that was just hired a week ago. She works only on the week-end. Pharmacy audited the med-carts and books. She was not giving the residents their scheduled narcotics. Narcotic cards were full. But the Mar was signed that she gave them. What do you do in your facility? tinkle
